Hey guys- looking for some tips on catching Hybrids on the fly. This is my first year hitting The Creek and so far it's all sand bass for me, but it's been a blast. So, do you do anything different to target hybrids?

Flies:
I've got clousers, ghost minnows, game changer. What other flies should I be looking for?

Technique:
I've mainly been fishing for sand bass on the swing, and either giving the rod a few jigs or stripping the fly back towards me. Should I be doing the same for Hybrid? Do they bite on average higher or lower in the water column?

Thanks for the help!

Hybrids are in the creeks for such a short period of time that opportunities to line up with one are few and far between.. Generally I throw bigger flys at hybrids..

I am no expert but I have caught a ton of hybrids in the creeks. You have to think about it in the fact that they are half Sandbass and half striper. Sandbass will arrive as early as January really start going late February and into April. Stripers start going late April and into June. The bulk of the fish that are trying to spawn will show up somewhere in the middle. But during the Sandbass run for a brief period of time (2 days)after really good rain event they can be thick early morning. Most of the best hybrids I have caught in the creeks though have been very late April into early June when most people have vacated the creeks.

That is a few Creek hybrids. I know this sounds crazy but the absolute biggest thing I can say I have learned about hybrids is before the sun comes up strip it upstream the moment the sun comes up start casting upstream and stripping down the stream. I had a buddy standing to the right that was upstream of me one day I was literally flipping a Clowser out with nothing but leader hanging out for my rod and pulling it down the stream passed his feet and hooking up every cast he was so frustrated with the fact that could not be the problem he did not cast upstream for 30 minutes of a hybrid every cast I was literally waiting on him to cast downstream so I could flip underneath his line to catch a fish. This was in the daylight he finally was like it's not going to make a difference it's something They don't like with my fly and flipped it upstream and hooked a fish immediately. I still use clousers for them but just a bigger size when I can get into hybrids I am normally using size two. I caught 42 one morning before work and made it to work by 930 it was a fun day lol. Wasn't worth much at work though lol.

So if the Yegua floods again we might need to make a run for hybrids..

I'm still laughing about you Robert saying, "I'm no expert." I'm trying to figure out who may know more about hybrids and sand bass. I've caught some but not as many as you have.

Lmbo hey I'm just trying to say take it for what it is. I know every situation is a little different. I may have caught more than my fair share bolt hey hook line I'll call j moe about some stuff on that. It will still be very viable this year;) I know y'all need the water but I'm really sad it flooded I was looking forward to coming down and fishing with y'all. Gee just realized the time this whole stressful situation is killing me can't sleep and after tomorrow I'll have 29 hours in two days. Going to need to hook a few hybrids to wake up in the morning. David " banderapass " an Plano Keith will be at them in the morning hope they find a few of those freight trains. It is set up right for it for sure.

You know it's odd that a person could not only enjoy catching a fish so much but be really good at it and have absolutely no desire to eat them lol.
