this was yesterday Allyse and i went in search of a gar over 5 foot for her to catch, we ended up hooking a almost 7 foot monster, Allyse helped me fight the gar the majority of the fight. we filmed and photographed it then released it to grow and reproduce since we push conservation of these fish. one minutes video showing the release of this awesome fish

My personal best is still swimming out there just getting bigger. One of these days I will quit feeding it.

You sir are awesome and I very much respect the way you handle the fish! Now..with Alligators in the river, you wouldn't see me or my kids sitting on the river's edge. Saw one a bit too close a few years back....no..no. lol..

thanks everyone, these are amazing fish, i have caught just about every species you can catch in the gulf(except tarpon) and i find gar to be the most challenging and rewarding fish i have ever fished for. i keep my daughter pretty far away from the waters edge on the trinity, i do not think there are gators on this area and river where i caught this fish, i could be wrong. but yah they freak me out it would be a bad way to go.

If you are at 21 as it looks that area is slap full of gators.

no not 21 and not the trinity(waters too clear ). i have seen the gators in palastine and midway/crockett.. i decided to branch out and find gar all around Texas and not just fish the overfished trinity this year
