1100 Bear Creek Pkwy

Keller, TX 76248

When?

April 18th, 9AM-Noon

What to Expect?

Although we are hoping to see novice fly fisherman at the local outings, these get togethers will have fisherman of all ranks and file. If you have never fly fished, never bought a pair of waders, perhaps not owned a fly rod, we want you to join us on Saturday, April 18th at the pond behind Keller Town Hall at 9:00 am. Once we have all gathered together, our host, Laura Walters, will make a brief introduction and assign fishing partners. If you are new to our sport you will be assigned a fishing partner to help you learn to how to make easy casts and hook ups with warm water species of fish such as green sunfish, bluegills, and largemouth bass inhabiting the pond.

Our primary objective with Fly Fish 101 will be to help introduce you to the basics. A mentor (fishing partner) will stay with you until you feel comfortable with making a basic pick up and laydown cast, stripping line, setting the hook, and most importantly--landing a fish. We know some times folks have gear but don’t know how to properly use it - so bring it - we will help you rig it up. If you don’t yet own any tackle we will have all you need on hand to learn. Feel free to ask questions- that’s why we’re here to walk you through this.

What do you need?

Camera or phone- you can take shots of lots of scenery and or fish.

Cap or hat

Comfortable clothing- long sleeved shirts give greater protection against the sun.

Eyewear (sunglasses or regular glasses--just something to protect your eyes)

Sneakers or sandals

Fishing license

We will provided (if you do not have them)

Lanyard with nippers

Fly rod and reel

Basic flies

Water

Sunscreen

Around noon we will break for a dutch treat lunch at a local eatery.

Stay tuned for more of the outings at different locations in the Metroplex. We hope to make these a fun experience with a minimal amount of travel.

Please RSVP as soon as possible to fortworthflyfishers@gmail.com if you plan on coming so that we will make sure to have enough equipment and volunteers at the event.
