Hi,

Haven't been posting much as of late, haven't been fishing too much either, due to work. But I'm wanting to get in a trip in early May to Lake Somerville for some bream. I've always read about somerville producing quality sunnies but never fished for them. We'll be in kayaks, so I'm not sure where the best launch points would be, perhaps one of the state parks? Or would we be better off just fishing at one of the Marinas? I plan to take a few home to dinner, and a few to a new pond we are stocking at my aunt & unlces new deer camp, which is 15 min from Nails Creek. Any input is greatly appreciated, thanks!

There is an angler that goes by "Jmoe" who post often. I think he fishes Somerville a lot. Hopefully he will respond to your post.

Hook, line & sinker fishes Somerville, specifically Nails and Yegua Creeks, more than anyone I know. He posts on the sand bass board and bankfishing board pretty regularly along with his YouTube channel.

mwrose 777, I actually have been asking for advice about Somerville Bluegill fishing myself. So, I too, was hoping to hear some good advise. I have fished quite a bit with Hook-Line & Sinker but it is usually for white bass, crappie and LMB. I will give you what I have learned so far.

Yegua Creek - You can launch kayaks at Newman's Bottom (HL&S has lots of videos of the Yegua). Fish downstream toward the lake. Hit all the logs laying in the water along the bank. We have caught small sunfish while fishing for crappie with jigs.

Overlook Marina - I have been fly fishing this cove. Sunfish bite has been improving and should peak around the full moon, beginning of May. I saw people catching them on worms and crickets on the boat docks.

I asked about sunfish on my Lake Somerville thread in the Bank section and didn't get much response. I was told by 2 people that they catch small sunfish in their cast nets around the boat ramp and points at Welch park. I also hear of a few being caught around Big Creek Marina.

Caught a lot of Crappie and White Bass off of that lake over the years. Great lake!

Thanks J-Moe. I know captain Wayne always talks about the bream fishing on the lake. I'll probably give it a shot early May. Start at overlook and work my way north with the kayak I guess.

Yes, Capt. Wayne is actually who I have been talking with at Overlook Marina. The area around Twin Islands is supposed to be good for sunfish as well.

I am planning on hitting the flooded timber at the northeast end of the lake tomorrow morning for gills, crappie and catfish.

I will report back on how the action was.

Great, It looks like there will be a gap in the rain between 6 AM and 2 PM tomorrow. Then it is expected to rain until Sunday morning. Gill fishing may be tough with the muddy water coming into the lake.
