I'm a crappie guy for the most part, but it looks like sandies/hybrids are the main fish chased on RH.

The wife and I moved out here by Hubbard from Fork after I retired so we can be close to the grands, and thus far, I'm loving life!

Any suggestions for a newbie on the lake? Thus far the crappie have kicked my tail, but I have picked up a few sandbass and hybrids by mistake. I've finally printed out a card to reference to see which is which when I catch one.

I have an 18' toon and have an iPilot mounted on it. I also have decent electronics with side scan capabilities, so I should be able to find something without heading over to a crowd. But, looking for any suggestions as to where to start....

Alan

Welcome to the area...There are a lot of really good guys that will be chiming in soon most are part of the RHSA. Hubbard has been good and bad lately changing day to day. The shad spawn should be starting soon so the shallow water around Robertson park will be a boat show most days but fish will be all over the lake on shallow points and flats. Top water action will get going late may and June. I fish out of a Nitro Z8 with fishing forum & RHSA sticker on my consoles. If you see me come over and say hello.

Hey Bubba !!!! Just what Yaffe said... A lot of great people on Hubbard and a good way to meet em' is the RHSA Big Breakfast coming up on May 2nd. The thread will be popping up here and there so look it up and chime in !! Come meet and greet welcome In the meantime watch for birds and or busting shad. A 1.5 oz slab works great and also a 3in or 4in swim bait from Moes tackle shop collection thumb

Welcome Bubba Toon, you could not have picked a better group of guys then those here on Hubbard. Fishing should stabilize here on Hubbard soon. I fish out of 22'Sea Fox center console with t top. There is lots of good info here on TFF. Come out and meet everybody at our breakfast here soon. We are making a fund raising drive for RHSA so lots of activities to meet Hubbard fisherman.

ON most lakes, I would not say this, but on Hubbard I think at times they try to see how many boats they can get catching fish in one spot smile So if you approach the boat show slow and respectful they will help you out. And with an Ipilot you will fit in perfectly. Hubbard has to have the friendliest fisherman around.

Going to their breakfast on May 2 will be the best investment you can make smile

Good Luck.

MtnDew you are right about all the boats occupying the same space when fishing. I think in our fishing world we could actually call it a form of Planking:)

If you see a cluster of Sea Hunts, Sea Foxes, Sea Pros, and Skeeters pull on up. And if you can hear someone laughing from across the lake well that's Plano Keith. You're in the right spot.

Spend most of your time south of I-30 and you are bound to run across some fish. Watch your electronics and for birds.

Welcome to Hubbard, Allen. welcome
What everyone said is true smile
Whites are fun to catch in numbers and hybrids make good bragging pics on TFF and they are the best fighter fish on the lake, IMO smile It's still early and hit and miss on the lake but it could turn on anytime. Just hang out in this section for the reports smile

RHSA is open to all. We started in 2012. Did one stocking of 45k quality fingerling hybrids in 2013. We will have the second stocking this June. Please come to the breakfast to meet and greet the friendliest and best anglers on TFF lol smile
