Hello all I'm still pretty new in Texas moved here from AZ last October. I have a chance to fish Lake Lavon in a kayak which I've never done before. The guy whos letting me use his kayak is also new the TX and never fished Lavon before. If it's not too much to ask I would like someone to give me an idea where to fish at. I'm not asking for your secret spot or anything just a general direction where to launch from and maybe a decent spot to catch LMB and or some crappie. We will be going there this Sunday morning. Anything will help. Thanks in advance everyone!

I'd suggest fishing around the elm fork marina area. You'll be more protected by the wind, and the fish are moving into the shallow water. Not to mention that marinas are always a good place to look this time of year. The fishing has been pretty tough out there ever since the water level shot up nearly 9 feet.

Mallard park might be an option paddle to the RR bridge area. Not sure how its going out there right now though as I haven't heard any good news from Lavon yet this year unless your after catfish... Might try fishing the rocks around that bridge or as mentioned try around the marina's at Collin park area.

Thank you T-Gauntt. Would you recommend to fish elsewhere if you were me? Maybe with this rain we may be able to get into some of the creeks nearby. It should be an adventure for sure.

I've never been but I hear you can launch a kayak in the river below the lavon dam that runs all the way down to ray Hubbard. There's supposed to be some really big fish in there.

They haven't generated in a long time. There are some big holdover fish Im sure though. There are some dams around 78 that would require portage, so it would be tricky to make the whole run. I would recommend putting it at East Fork or Collin Park. Protected coves, marinas, some good structure.

Yep, East Fork, Collin Park or Mallard Park are all great places to drop in. It may just be a timing thing and your trip could be productive come this weekend but so far it has been tough out there for bass. My only theory is the lake has come up so quick its scattered the fish. Usually the areas mentioned are good for at least a few fish but this year has been bizarre. I have been out 3 times in the last few weeks and haven't had a bump.

Thank you all for the info. I may just check out the marina area, as long as there is structure there will be fish there. I am worried and happy with all the rain we have got tho, more water for fish to hide in now. We shall see once sunday comes.

Went out today around 10:30 and fished until about 1. Saw lots of fish on the finder and saw millions of tiny shad everywhere. With all the ramps closed I had the lake to myself basically. I did catch 2 big 14" sand bass on a tandem crappie jig setup. Wind started picking up and it was hot, so I called it a day. Hoping to go back early one day or in the evening since its a mile from my house.

Nice! Where'd you drop in? I'd like to do some crappie fishing out there myself.

Yes, where did you launch from and how was the water clarity?

Parked outside of Brockdale park and carted in. Its a long way to the water just so your prepared for that. But a person could launch by the bridges pretty easy right now. Water clarity wasn't too bad in my opinion.

Mallard Park is closed but East Fork is open and offers all types of fish. Not sure what you are targeting. Launch at ramp on east side of park a lot more protected. Bass or Crappie go right or South towards Marina and fish rocks and marina. Catfish go left or North to huge concrete inlet and drift going North of it.
Questions shoot me a pm.

I wish that were true about East fork but the COE list all ramps closed and parks. The only place that is not listed is Collin Park because it is privately managed. I would call them first before heading over though if interested. I had the sheriff come down to check on me at Brockdale park that day before I launched, he said I was ok to be down there.
