Hey everyone, just wanted to take a minute to give y'all an update on the fishing around here. It's been pretty awesome lately!

Monticello:
Now that monticello is on the same agenda as a normal cold water lake, the fish are starting to adjust to the lower water temps and their movements for this time of year have changed a little bit. There are still quite a few on beds, some guarding fry and some that still haven't spawned yet. My best bite has been in the afternoon on Santone swim jigs in river bream with a houdini smash tech swimbait as the trailer. I've also been catching some bed fish on a white smash bug jr. and a wacky worm. I'm looking for bedding fish in protected areas that are shallow and flat. As the water continues to get warmer they'll be spawning on the main lake more as opposed to the backs of the coves and creeks.
Lake O' The Pines:
Pines is currently 5.40 ft high, which is a big drop from a few weeks ago when it was over 8 ft high. A lot of the fish have already spawned, but there are a few left on beds on the lower end of the lake that i've been catching. I'm mainly targeting fish that are moving out of the super shallow flooded stuff as the lake has been dropping, and targeting big trees and bushes that are in 3-5 ft. I've been using the same swim jig and also am flipping a green pumpkin and purple smash bug on a 1/4 oz tungstun weight. The biggest key is to keep covering water until you get a few bites, then pick the areas apart. The fish here are moving around a lot so where you catch some one day they might not be there tomorrow.
Cypress Springs:
Cypress is half a foot up right now, which is just about perfect for this time of the year. The water has been a little bit dirty for sight fishing, so we have been casting to holes and points in the alligator grass where beds should be. Our best baits for this "blind bed fishing" have been wacky worms and light weighted texas rigged lizzards and smash bugs in green pumpkin purple with the tail dipped in orange dye. Making repetitive casts to these little spots is key to getting bit. Our biggest fish have been coming on follow up casts immedietly after catching small ones. So if you're fishing with someone else and they catch a little one, be sure to quickly fire right back in there.
I've also been on a pretty fun top water bite when it's been cloudy. My two best baits have been a buzz bait and a black spro popping frog. I've been throwing these baits around the edge of the alligator grass and the corners of boat houses and retaining walls.
Bob Sandlin:
Sandlin is just under a half foot high, which is awesome because it hasn't been full in 5 years. The big ones have really been biting out here with 5 fish over 10 pounds being weighed in the last 2 weeks. Fork isn't the only place to go to and catch a double digit smile
We've been catching them on Sandlin the same way we have on cypress, by fishing spawning flats and making casts to areas where one would make a bed with the smash bug and a lizard on texas rigs and throwing frogs and buzz baits when it's cloudy. We have also been catching a few on the smash tech trespasser and fellon line thru swimbaits around points and drains leading in to these spawning areas.

I still have a few dates in April open and am starting to book next month, so give me a call or email me to get in on this really exciting fishing!

Be sure to check out the new line of baits from smash tech that i've been catching a bunch of my fish on at www.smashtechbaits.com

Hope this report helps y'all catch a big one on your next trip out here. Good luck!

Figure this guy might look familiar to some of y'all!

Thanks for the detailed reports!! We have had a ton of rain the last 2 months so the fish have been up and down a lot. I haven't fished Mont/Cypress/Bob Sandlin before but sounds like all those lakes have greatly benefited from the new water allowing for better cover for the spawners!

Took a trip with Jay 2 weeks ago and caught the cr@p out of them! including a 9 pounder on a frog! we probably had 25-30 fish in the boat that day easily. Love that flipping bite.

Thanks for the head-up and a good report. I'll be fishing a private lake South of Sandlin this weekend, so this is helpful.
