Fished Grapevine last Friday and Sat morning, drifting for blues mainly with shad in 6-10 ft of water, west end flats. Friday was slow but did manage 6 good keepers for dinner. Sat took the kids out and could hardly buy a bite. Wind from the northeast and light on Friday, more from the East on Sat and a little higher, had to use my drift sock. Not sure why it was so tough, water temps sitting in the the 66 to about 68 degree range, shad were easy to get in about 3-4 ft of water. Was I fishing too deep? Too shallow? I flat tore up the blues last year in April fishing the same area, depths and wate temp. Normally don't target channel cats till around the 1st of May then go to windy rocks with a slip cork. With water temps pushing 70, that might come a little earlier, we'll see. Anyone else having much success on the vine lately? Will probably try again this weekend weather permitting (looks like the wind will be a bit higher but out of the west).
