Thinking about taking the family to stay at the State Park. Anybody do any fishing down there?

Yes! I have camped @ South Llano River State Park more times than I remember. I have canoed the river nearly as many times. Fishing can be great on this river. You can use typical bass tackle if fishing the deeper/slower backwater areas but for floating down the river in a canoe or kayak we have always used spinning tackle with smaller lures. Really all you need is a 4" curley tailed grub on about a 1/8-1/4oz jig head. Any color(as long as it's chartruse!). Fish your way down river but get out and pay special attention to the faster areas with rapids. You can go up to the 1st Highway 377 crossing and float down to the park(long trip) or float down to town from the park(shorter trip). If only bank fishing you can wade and fish the river the entire lenth within the park bounderies. Beautiful river! Enjoy.

I'll be a little further downstream from there, with my three inch gold dredge. Sometimes one of the guys will fish right behind the dredge where the stuff from the bottom is stirred up and draws in the fish.

Lots of pretty sunfish as well as some sizable bass, yellow cat, gaspergou, carp and gar.

If you are staying at the state park don't forget to go over to Buck Lake. It's just a big pond within the park but there are some really nice bass in there. The lake is catch and release only when catching bass, but you can keep all of the channel catfish that you want.
