This is a picture of my lil "pan fish" taken last summer. He has worn out numerous spincast reels. Zebco, Shakespeare, and Mr. Crappie. I'm looking for one that'll last him more than a month or two. He fishes every day in the pond with his pop and/or I. He's been casting a rod and reel since before he could walk good. What do you guys recommend as good spincast equipment in the smaller size reels. Thanks for your help.

I would say put a Zebco 33 on a smaller rod and then just change the rod out as he gets bigger. He should be able to push and hold down the button even with his smaller thumbs.

Try the Zebco Microcast 11 reel on a Zebco Micro rod. There is a world of difference in the Micro 11 metal reel and the other plastic Zebco series such as the 202 and 404. I have Micro 11 reels that I have had for several years and they are still giving good service. The Micro 11 would be a good size fit for your boy. If you get a Zebco 33 be sure to get the high end metal reels. Zebco sells many reels as a Zebco 33 and some of them are junk.

I'm also raising up and coming fishermen. I have two. I've also gone through the same frustrations as you are with cheapo reels that don't hold up. Go to Bass Pro and get an Extreme. They come in 2-3 different sizes. They resemble the Diawa Gold cast but are built better and cost less. I have 10 & 8 year old boys. We have our own pond and go fishing often. We have been on these Extreme reels for about 18 months now with zero problems. Good luck and happy fishing with your little buddy there. http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Extreme-Spincast-Reel/product/1209270506431/

Thanks yall! He is one heck of a young fisherman, and has already accomplished more than I expected. He did take a dip in the lake on Valentines Day. (His Mom likes to fish too) Water was 56 degrees. His life jacket performed like it is supposed to. He handled it well and asks me when we are "goin swimmin again."
We have been through one of the Zebco micro 11s. I'm going to try the Bass Pro Extreme next! Thanks!

Take a look at the small size Zebco Omega. They make 2 sizes and the big one will be too large for him but the small one might be about right. Not cheap, but for ease of use, minimal "issues" during operation, and quality of build, they are mighty fine reels. Should last him for a very long time.

If you've had bad experience with the Zebco 11, I can see going with another option. But, I totally agree with Smithaven. The Micro 11 is the one spincast reel that I really liked.
