Bought a Kistler rod from a guy here on the forum ... forgot to request insurance, Fedex lost it and two weeks and seven phone calls to FedEx later I'm still unclear if I have any recourse. Paid $160 including the shipping, and I think insurance would have been $3 extra. Live and learn I guess ...

even with the insurance they still give you the runarounds wanting you to prove value and that it was packaged correctly. at least thats what happened to me with ups when they damaged a trolling motor i bought off bbc. they made it so difficult i just said to hell with it and wont ship with them again.

There should be an automatic insurance of $100, I believe. Don't give up on this. At least get your $100 back from FedEx. FedEx and UPS are notorious for wanting to run you around and make it difficult so that you will give up and they don't have to pay. Escalate it. Get the person's boss, then their boss. Don't stop until it is resolved. If you give up, they will win and these actions will continue.

Thanks guys. I am just sick because I've never spent that much on a rod in my life. Every time I call FedEx they tell me they will investigate and get back to me in 24 hours, then I have to call the next day and start over with someone new. Will continue to fight the good fight ...

The shipper has responsibility in this. Any insurance would be to cover him when things like this happen. If he cannot prove delivery and you paid thru PayPal you can file a claim with them. They will investigate on their end and request proof of delivery from the shipper...not just proof of shipment. If he cannot provide POD the majority of the time PayPal will refund your purchase.

Well guys all it took was a dozen phone calls to Fedex but I got the rod today, three weeks late. As best I can tell it went from Florida to North Carolina to South Carolina (where I live) to Missouri to Nebraska to Utah, before finally making it to me. Persistence pays off I guess ...

Fedex is the worst for insurance. Their reps must be trained to give you the run around so that you cannot collect insurance for lost or damaged packages.
I'm not sure if you can send rods via USPS, but USPS (mail) is the best way to ship, in my opinion. It's also the fastest per cost (priority) and if something is damaged, they pay the claim within a month, and they'll refund your postage.
