Went out to chase bass last night and started working down a point. Caught 4 crappie on a Grande Bass Mutant. I could have loaded the boat with a jig under a slip cork. If it stops raining, I may go hit it again with the proper crappie equipment.

Crappie made for a fine lunch today!

As I was heading further in to the cover, sandbass started exploding. I kept 15 and left them biting.

Definitely right place and right time. My crappie skills are limited.

Caught two nice ones yesterday on a 1/2 double willow leaf spinnerbait. Its kind of amazing the size baits they will hit every now and then.

By the way, on the crappie, I marinated in orange juice for about 2 hours, then sauteed in olive oil with garlic salt and pepper, then added a little butter when they were almost done. Put them on the plate and squeezed lime juice. They were delicious!

If I had to pick a favorite fish, it would be snook (with tarpon a close second) and since my bass equipment is perfect snook equipment, I doubt it will be going anywhere.

Make sure you don't overcook. Cook right to where the center of the thickest slab is cooked, then pull it off the heat. The residual heat in the pan will continue to cook it a little more. When you pull it off the heat, that's a good time to add a little butter.

I'll have to try this. As much Crappie as we eat I have to change it up often. This looks fantastic.
