Too sissy-fied.
Sunscreen works fine.

Stupid thing to say. Just wait until you get melanoma on your hands and they start cutting pieces off, then you'll be REAL glad you're so tough. There's no sunscreen on Earth that protects better than gloves.

Glad some are open minded about it. No sense in having cancer problems down the line when for the price of two lures per year you can stay away from it! Wish they had them years ago. If they did, I'd never heard of them. I constantly having to go and get small spots burned off the back of my hands now, and nose and forehead too, wear big hats, sunscreen not as good, as stated.

I have used the Mangrove Sun Gloves for years and had good results with them.

Simms. Get the open palm type. After a few cast you will forget you're wearing anything and wonder why you've not been wearing them all along. I also recommend the Buff/ neck and face guard for sun protection. I wear the Simms brand buff but I'm sure other brands are just as good. The Simms buff has a vent where your mouth is making it a little easier to breath ( you'll tend to want to wear it below your mouth due to the breathing issue but you should wear it over your mouth and nose for the most protection ).

I put the gloves and buff in a large 32 oz cup with a few teaspoon of detergent and water. Let it soak for a few hours then rinse. Squeeze out the water and let drip dry.

My mom died from skin cancer 3 years ago. I used to be the tuff ( stupid ) guy that thought I was bulletproof. i now wear long sleeve shirts, buff, gloves and even apply Bullfrog 50 proof just to be safe.

I really like my columbia gloves. They let your had move a lot more free than any other brand I've ever tried on. Just cut the palm out of the one for your non cranking hand, keeps the reel from slipping around if you palm them like I do.

Dr Shade Gloves is what I use now. Take sun protection very seriously! I had melanoma surgery on my left forearm in March of this year. I fished tournaments every weekend. I have only been fishing four times this year due to recovering from this. Protect yourself or it will happen to you too.

I'd much rather wear skin protection garments also.
If you prefer short sleeved shirts these are a good option

I wear the Academy Magellan gloves and don't even notice them on. Only 34 here but spent time deployed so want to minimize damage that has already been done. Also Salt Armour face buffs, neat designs and you can usually pick them up for around $6 a piece including shipping if you catch a sale. "AUSSIE80" is working right now at www.saltarmour.com

Only thing that is annoying when wearing a buff is the fogging of the sunglasses. Anyone have any anti fog treatment ideas other than spit?

Second this! I'm only 29, wear sunscreen and protective clothing religiously, but also had a melanoma spot removed from my left forearm this spring. Just a thought of mine: the melanoma appeared on the inner part of my forearm, just down from my thumb. It's really easy to miss sunscreen there, but that area will face directly up towards the sun all day when holding a rod. Seems like a logical spot for skin cancer to develop.

Can't we all just get along....
