As I pulled my boat into a ramp at Wright Patman I saw something that really did turn me off.On a hunting road thats closed for the summer someone had killed about 12, what looked like long nose gar, and had them side by side across the road the bigest was in the mid 30s. What a wast.

I have no problem with a person sticking a gar with a arrow, but find a use for it don't through it out in a pile where people are coming by the stink.

That's why I don't stick gar. What can a person do with gar and carp/buffalo at that? I don't have a yard to burry them in and no idea what to do with them.
Is it possible to do something your whole life and still be an ameteur?

Similar thing happened in my neck of the woods. About 15 gar shot and thrown all over a public boat ramp. Warden said if he finds out who it was they'll never own a legal weapon or fishing/hunting license again. He was pretty livid.

They are consumable and Not everyone hates them but Some people think that if it`s not Bass,Catfish,or Crappie it`s useless & ugly. The fact is these fish Gar,Grennell,Carp,Buffalo and even the fresh water Drum are very consumable but people like to kill them because they don`t know how to prepare them for the table. There is an remedy for that CPR or if you want to get an idea on how to prepare them go to............GOOGLE!! Kill for a Meal not foe a thrill.

re What to do with carp, etc. . I ran into a bow fisherman some years ago. Asked the same question. He said he had a friend who raised hogs. The guy was VERy happy to get the carp. Said hogs love em, bones and all. richg99

Even those old commercial fishermen that ran nets had a lot better use of the rough fish than some of the so called sportsmen of today have.

I have no problem with a person sticking a gar with a arrow, but find a use for it don't through it out in a pile where people are coming by the stink. I don't have a problem if people take all species legally with legal means. I have a big problem with it when it is alligator gar, with a limit of 1 per day, and they shoot many, pull the arrows and say they are releasing them. Most of those fish are going to die, and if they deny that, they are too ignorant and clueless to in be in a boat and on the water, obviously not sportsmen, and liars gaming the system. That applies to both guides and fishermen, if you want to call them that. We have come a long way in conservation, helping many species survive and prosper. We should do the same for alligator gar. Killed out in much of it's former range, Texas is fortunate to have a viable fishing population. The ignorance of a few poor excuses for sportsmen endangers that resource and a spectacular Cretaceous remnant. People who do that are not worthy of respect in my opinion and totally worthy of contempt. If you kill more than the legal limit, as described, and object to those opinions, I really couldn't care less. You are an embaressment and definitely not a sportsman. Respect the law and the species, and then, others will respect you.

You can throw the dead gar back in the lake for the turtles.

Carp and buffalo make great bait. As far as releasing a fish shot with a bow back into the water...
