Got a late start and fished Lake Dunlap. Fished from 10am till 2:30pm and the bite was good. Fished two different spots and found nice Bluegills at both. Caught over 40 nice fat Bluegill in the 7 and 8 inch range. I also caught a 12 and a half inch Redear that easily would have weighted about a pound and a quarter. The water was clear with a good current. Fish were in shallow water 3 to 6 feet deep. Fish were caught using worms with a bottom technique. Most of the fish were released including the trophy Redear. I did keep some of the Gills for dinner to go along with an ice cold Corona. Starting the week catching Bluegill. It just don't get any better! fish

Thanks "Turf Dawg" and Chris for the replies. cheers "Turf Dwag": Finding the Big Redear has been a challenge so far this year! Usually during the winter we nail em. This past winter I only caught two that were over ten inches. Last fall we nailed em. Caught well over 100 that were over 10". Go figure. hide2

Chris: Found eggs in all but one! hmmm I think the spawn is starting. Gills we were catching last week and today were all urinating after being caught. eeks

Awesome, I would love to catch a 12 inch redear too, an 11 inch for that matter!!! Looks like the fish are moving toward the shallow water. Fly fishing should start to improve greatly in the next couple of weeks.

Thanks Jamie for the reply! cheers Those 12" Redear are in Dunlap for sure. The more you fish for em you will eventually catch some. Lady Bird Lake in Austin also has some Big Ones and so does the Little Blanco River and the Guadalupe River. coolio

Side Note: The Gill spawn down here is on! Starting to see sunnies on nest while fishing the Creeks. thumb

Very nice catch there and that 12" WOW! My fishing yesterday got canceled for a trip to Mexico to see my dentist. Would rather have been fishing for sure

My personal best is still swimming out there just getting bigger. One of these days I will quit feeding it.

If the males were "peeing" that's probably milt and they are either immediately pre-spawn, in the spawn or immediately post-spawn. Especially being that shallow on that lake. I'd say the early spawners have spawned at least if not the gen pop (general population).

Thanks guys for the replies. cheers Mark the Crappie bite has been on fire this past month. The spawn is still going on but the end is near. A lot of the Crappie have spawned out. "DH": I hate the dentist but that's life! bang "Jagg": I think you are right on the money! coolio
