Whats the easiest to use wire leader for kings or what ever. I don't want to buy crimpers so I need some wire a little softer so I can twist it . I only get to go near shore once a year so I don't want to invest in a bunch of crimps and stuff .

Use channel lock pliers you dont need to expensive crimp set. Just buy to correct sleeves that you need for the diameter of the wiring that you will be using.

That's a good idea but I've seen some wire (on fishing shows) that could be twisted by hand. No sleeves necessary . If I do the sleeves do I use double or single ?

What pound test is the wire they were using? I always use double.

40 or 50 lb . What would you use on kings 10 0r 12 miles out ?

Usually 50 lb with a C hook with 6 ounce weight.

Channel locks won't cut it when used for crimping sleeves, and the proper crimpers aren't that expensive. With sleeves, only use a cup to cup type crimper. Don't use a point to cup style crimper or pliers. Use sleeves made from a material that won't react to the stainless leader. There are also some types of multi strand wire that can be tied, such as tyger wire.

Or you could just buy some pre made kingfish leaders? No extra tools for those.

It takes some practice, but once you learn to 'tie' a haywire twist, it's easy to prepare good, simple, no-fail wire leaders.

MALIN, MALIN,, MALIN!!!!! Coffee color. Also use dark or coffee colored swivels (chrome swivels invite bites at the knot from spanish macks and your whole rig is gone).
Best wire leader out there that I have found bar none. Learn to tie a proper haywire and you are good to go (lots of good instructional vids online). When we fished for kings I used mainly 90 lb. The 70-90 lb range is the easiest to learn to tie with. And NEVER, NEVER, NEVER waste your money on store bought kingfish rigs. I have seen them fail way too many times. They use cheap wire and hooks. If you catch that monster of a lifetime you are likely to lose it on store bought junk.

I had sharks chew thru the cable before a sleeve messed up from using channal locks. Even had the cable break a foot from the sleeve that was installed with channel locks. If you use them do this patteren on one side ///// the oppisite direction on the other side.
