I'm looking for a place to get on some good bass near college station. I've fished most of the local small ponds but haven't had much luck. Just seeing if anyone knows what pond or lake that they are all hiding in. Main reason I'm asking is because I'm taking my girlfriend out and she hasn't done much fishing so I'd like for her to at least catch a few haha

Thanks
Jchap

If your limited to bank fishing there is a pond off of Finfeather in Bryan that I have heard people are catching decent numbers of bass out of. While I was in college I caught fish pretty consistent out of the pond behind the George Bush Library. The best bigger lake around BCS is Gibbons Creek. It is only open on the weekends and can be tough to fish from the bank as well. While in college when I did not have a boat I fished from the bank for bass some and caught a few in the spill way behind the dam at the far end away from the spillway.

It's been 15 years or so, but the small lake in the Nantucket community just south of CS was an unbelievable honey hole for me back in the day. Unless it's changed, it's only open to residents and their guests so you'll have to befriend someone who has access. I was lucky that one of the boys I coached on the summer league baseball team lived out there, and his family let me fish out of their two man boat w/ trolling motor. 15-20 quality fish a day up to 7 lbs. every time I got to fish it. Great trips! I know a fishery can change a lot in 15 years, but it's worth looking into.

This pond may be private now. I can't exactly remember so I'd look into it.

It's allot tougher now. Only way ur getting on is knowing people that's for sure. Bryan municipal golf course has some nice bass but is pressured and always hit or miss

It's good to go. Not many big fish but some numbers.

brazos center behind target in bryan off of 6 had some good fish when i was there 3 or 4 years ago

gabbard park has some good numbers

believe it or not the police station pond has some GIANT bass

walden pond apartments used to hold some fish

central baptist church has 2 ponds...the small one used to hold fish, some up to 3 pounds

i fished most of these places pretty dang hard when i lived down there a few years ago. my brother still lives down there but has made friends with a lot of people and has access to the private lakes/ponds, otherwise id be able to give you better reports through him

When was the last time you went to Gabbard? Just wondering if it still has fish.

Get some kayaks (or a 2 person yak) and head down to Fayette which is your best bet in the immediate area for numbers and size. Not sure if there is a place in B/CS to rent yaks now if you don't want to buy.

Bryan Utilities lake has some good bass but is tough to fish. Gibbons is even tougher but decent frog fishing when the pads fill in

I've caught some over 5 in that little pond and lost one close to 7. You don't have to believe me if you don't want lol that just means more fish for me....A good friend of mine, his father in law does the surveys on all the TPWD ponds in the area and I was there one day when they pulled hoop nets. Big cats, big crappie and again, big bass

I have to take a run out to A&M on Wednesday so I will try some of these. Undecided whether to bring my kayak or not as it depends on the weather forecast.

I fish GIbbons creek every weekend, unless its storming that little lake gets rough and im running a 15.5' skeeter. I will say bank fishing from Gibbons creek must be tough. There isnt a ton of access to prime bass spots but threre are a few. The north end of the lake is full of flooded timber but if your in a kayak that wont be a bother...I would focus on the island, and the dock near the camping area...and if you are really down to kayak at leas two miles head down the the spill way or the dam on the south side of the lake...Tight Lines and good luck buddy!
