just got these blanks and have started working on patterns. since they run so shallow and are attacked from underneath it's the bottom and lower sides that are most important...i think. let me know what you think and what patterns you think might work best.

I'm thinking about doing a gill and possibly a copper bone shad with orange throat patch. I have been thinking hard about patterns for them I might even do a gold leafed shad with a orange belly.

Wake baits wobble almost completely from side to side. The side and bottoms are as you think the most important. As Brad pointed out, an orange belly or throat is something I always want. Stay away from extremely flashy stuff. Be subtle. As boisarc can tell you (he painted some for me) I am very partial to bone. I like bone sides (or bone undertones) with orange throats. I think I would like the brown colors that you guys have been doing but I would still like the base color to be bone with orangish throat. I think some olive greens with a little yellow & orange would be great colors. When it comes to wakes, I think the more natural colors are best. Just my humble opinion. You guys have great eyes for color patterns and I believe that whatever you do, it will be a killer. Rick, I just looked at your gill pattern. That would be perfect with a bone bottom and just a orange throat.

i like the idea of a bone bottom and orange throat on the gills. i'll try and get that on a bait in the next couple days. great suggestion. i bet it would be great on awake bait. keep those ideas coming.

I know a place where the grass is like that, it's the main reason I ordered them if I can keep my square bill out of the grass it's killer, but it's not easy to do. Here is the pattern I'm thinking about trying first.

This is one of the more common minnows you see darting around moss and weeds along the shoreline of most lakes. I think it would look good painted over Silver/Chrome foil. I put a paint schedule together for that purpose. If you want to give it a try, feel free to use it and make changes according to your preferences. Bullhead Minnow Coloration: Light to dark olive back, scales darkly outlined; dusky to black stripe along silver-blue side, ending just before black spot at tail fin; dusky stripe along underside of lateral line; breeding males darker with black head.1. Chrome foil the lure body 2. Black base. 3. White over mesh to provide base for color. 4. Turquoise Blue upper back, above lateral line, from gill plate to tail. 5. Dark Grey lateral line ending before tail spot. 6. Yellow underside of lateral line. 7. Olive Nose, head, eyes & back bone over mesh. 8. Dark Grey spot on tail. 9. Orange - Throat/gill area....for contrast

I like that lure blank...can you say where you got them? Just thinkin'...you might try to spray just the belly and sides from the throat to the belly hook area with an orange-ish or yellow-ish color. (Per cworthy:) Just for grins try mixing several drops of white with a small amount of yellow and stir it up good. You end with a yellow-ish white almost bone color. Makes a good belly color with a red or orange based color at the throat.

I use a paint color called buttermilk for the bone color, I was mixing 2 ml white with 4 drops of yellow before to get the same color. I just decided to buy the buttermilk color to try and it is almost identical to the color I was mixing and easier to replicate right out of the bottle.

I would throw either one on those any day of the week. Outstanding!! Put yourself a yellow feather tail on them bad boys and go to town. Just one thing on the second one, try and keep the sparkle down. Baits on the surface reflect a whole lot more light than cranks do. Too much sparkle actually works against you. JMHO I think you have some winners there.
