Anyone have a clue what the crappiethon is or was?

Sorry, I've been out of the area for years and trying to catch up.

I fished in it years ago when Ray Roberts was just a couple of years old. Caught a couple of $25.00 fish. They shut down years ago.

Caught a lot of $25 fish on Joe Pool, but that was long ago. Even helped catch keepers to tag one year at Lynn Creek.

The last reported remnants of life from Crappie-thon events appears to be from around 2007. There were suppose to be two events held - Indiana's Monroe Lake and Kentucky Lake.

James "Jim" Climer was heavily involved with the organization of the Lewisville event and others like it too. I was fortunate to be a part of a company that supported it. I helped Jim to tag, release and distribute fish for the Lewisville event. Lots of local anglers helped to catch the legal sized fish to make the tagging efforts a success. I think even the Lewisville Fishing Barge assisted as well.

It's a shame the event eventually folded. It was exciting to anticipate the next thump and the potential of catching Tangle Free Tom or one of the many, many other sponsored fish.

Those were fun times.

Johnson was one of the major funding sponsors and I think high level corporate changes killed the tour. It was quite entertaining and kids especially (including old kids ) could hit pay dirt and have hopes of stardom.

Thanks guys. I remember people flocking to the Hagerman creeks shoulder to shoulder (that wasn't fun) trying to catch their prize.

I remember Crappie Thon on Lewisville. The Barge was packed during that time period. It was a lot of fun.
