I know there is a lot of junk fish in White Rock (Dallas), but has anyone had any recent success with LMB fishing these or do you think its over fished? Thank you.

I live pretty near there but have only fished it a couple times. Mostly seems like the people fishing it aren't targeting bass, I think if you could get on the water in a kayak or something you could catch some fish by the dam or other shore line cover

I live near the lake. It has some really nice bass that are shallow right now. Primary forage is shad(thread fin and gizzard) then craw fish and crappie. Easier to cover water from the water in a kayak or jon boat but you can catch bass from the bank throwing a sq bill or soft plastic. You will lose a lot of sq bills so go cheap, don't throw your Luck Craft at WR.

There are snakes but also don't be afraid to fish a soft plastic or jig on braid inside of the reeds.

I would say there are 10 people tops that regularly target bass on WR.

WRL is great for bass especially this time of the year!

Like was already said, most people there are after other species.

I fished White Rock Creek from the bank one day last week and caught 5-6 fish off of beds. Biggest fish was about 2.5 lbs, but it was fun. Fished just north of NW Highway.

Can you launch a 16ft bass boat? I know they had a big tournament that denny braurer won around 15-20 years ago. Im guessing they used their big boats. Have never been or tried, just wondering cause its looks good.

Several ramps at White Rock--these two are listed on tpwd, but there are some others also.

David,

Thanks so much for your help!! Very helpful! I have a fishing kayak-could you tell me the best place to put in and any particular section of the lake I should fish??

(I do have some nice crank baits, so glad you told me!!! LOL. Is there a lot of hang ups underneath?)

Thx Again,

Greg

There are a couple of other ramps that are great for kayaks
Personally I like this one at Winfrey Point

Mark Jones had a tournament on White Rock a few years ago. It was a blast.

You can launch your big boat but can't use big motor...trolling motor only.

White Rock Lake
Public Access Facilities

Outboard motors on White Rock Lake can be no more than 10.5 HP. However, boats with larger motors can navigate the lake using their trolling motors. Several fishing piers are available. Camping is not allowed, but picnic facilities abound. Park curfew is midnight to 5 a.m. For more details, choose a point on the map or a name in the chart below.
http://tpwd.texas.gov/fishboat/fish/recreational/lakes/white_rock/access.phtml

I used the ramp on the South Side.

The kayak launch mentioned above is a great starting point bc the shoreline behind the arboretum has one of the few defined ledges in the lake after various dredges and subsequent silting. There is great shoreline structure and a nice 4-5 foot drop off within a long cast of the bank. Lots of artificial drainages off the road and park. Good fish caught along that shoreline.

You have to remember that for the most part the lake is shallow and any offshore structure came in on a flood and is relatively temporary with the exception of the marinas and silted in mouth. So you are bank beating, but the lake is choked with bait and lots of healthy predators. You'll think you caught a pig bass until it starts rolling, quits fighting or takes off on a long run - cat, drum or even a foul hooked carp. Good luck
