I havent fished on Lewisville in about two years since I got married, a new baby, new job and just too much other responsibilities coming around. I finally had a weekend where I could go out. It was my dad's birthday on Saturday and we figured it would be a nice trip.

The trip started out bad with our realization that neither of us had our fishing license for 2015. So we stopped to get a license on the way. Then we realized that we didn't grab my cast net to catch shad with. We got the net and finally put in about 9:45 at Pilot Point. We find out shortly after getting on the water that I grabbed the wrong net, it was one that got hung and had about a 5 foot hole in the netting. We decided we would fish with Chicken Liver, Secret 7 and Danny Kings.

We started by anchoring in some tree just outside the cove where you can put in at Pilot Point. We were in 12 foot on water. After 15 minutes with 4 rods out with the 3 baits above, we moved. We figured there was little chance of some fish being shallow but we decided to try in 5 foot of water. There is a shallow "island" type area about 100 yards from where we were so we tried there. Water was 5 foot were we anchored and we fished straight down and cast up into the grassy area which was probably 2-3 foot. Again after 15 minutes we moved on. We moved out toward the 35 bridge and stopped in the middle of the lake area in 18 foot of water. After 15 minutes of nothing we moved again. We tried right up under the bridge around the columns in 30 foot of water. Moved on again after 15 minutes to the rocks on SE side of the bridge. Anchored in 25 foot of water and fished straight down as well as casting up near the rock in what I would guess was 15 foot of water. Again nothing bite and we moved. We headed NE from that point to an Island that had submerged grass in 4 foot of water. We tried not only straight down but also bobbers and casting the bait right up in the grass and got nothing. We moved to a private boat dock that had a 12 foot channel with rocks on both sides of us about 50 feet on either side. We tried straight down in the 11 foot range as well as casting bobbers with 4 foot of line right up near the shore in about 4-6 foot of water and again nothing. We then found another cove(im not familiar with the area but there was a huge 3 lane boat ramp) we went up in the cove and found a spot that looked nice with 18 foot of water. Fished 30 minutes and nothing.

Im dumbfounded that we couldn't find some sort of action. It's not often that we go out and cant get a bite. What do you think we did wrong?

edit** meant Pilot Knolls park.

You was fishing in the wrong places. There were not any fish there. That's why you didn't catch fish. See that was easy your question is answered

15mins per spot? Some of the best fishing days of my life were after 1-2 hours on the water and then the bite started.

I have found that most of the fish where I fish have scattered across a lage mud flat in about 10 foot deep. My only suggestion woukd be get some good bait and keep, eliminating the areas where they are not at. Sometimes it takes a few days to figure out how to catch them. It is very hard to stay on them as a part time angler. Advantage retired guys.lol

Yes, typically if your fishing with liver and dough/punch baits and you dont have a bite in 15 minutes, then there are not active fish in the area. Plus we were trying to cover a lot of area to find where they might be as I havent fished on Lewisville in several years I have no idea what depth they would be this time of year.

If you don't have any action in 30 min. on any Texas lake move. That goes for anything but flathead.

Cut shad is the best. It is the spawning time of year so your best bet may be close to the mouth of the major creeks (pecan and hickory on the west side). The water is warming up so fish are moving shallow. Again, anchor off in the mouth of a major creek on the right day and conditions and you catch them moving in and out. If you are looking for numbers of catfish, my advise is move into shallow water around tall grass and timber. Channels and smaller blues are crazy there. I was out there yesterday and had no problems finding them. There is what looks like a solid island north of the toll bridge and a little to the left but it is actually timber on the outside and standing grass and foliage. Cast at the edges and hold on to your pole.

Is it possible to do something your whole life and still be an ameteur?

I think they are shallow. I forgot one of my anchors yesterday and had to drift and didn't catch anything.

They are shallow on fork. 1 to 2 feet. Been doing best on heavily wind blown banks.

O yea. And we are killing them in Stubbys bait!
