After chasing the stripers and sandies my wife and I decided to check out the crappie situation thinking if we can't find them biting this time of year the population is just down. I was told by another fisherman that the Game and Parks shocking program revealed low results on crappie this last year. Still....had to give it a try. We picked up 6 beautiful black crappie with only one throwback. Only had time to fish one spot. I'll post a pic of them later today or tomorrow. Heading back out this afternoon to give them another try. Hopefully the effect of this cold front will be wearing off on them by this afternoon.

Here are the pics of our results on Thursday and Saturday. Interesting thing was when I fileted them there was no milt or eggs in any of them. I guess they must have spawned out already. These fish were very scattered. The most we picked up off of 1 tree was two fish. The rest of the time you would catch one right away and that was it until you moved on. We didn't catch a single white crappie, but then we were fishing in 8 to 18 foot of water.

Wow! I am in awe of you catching crappie at Possum Kingdom. Black Crappie as well, since the state does not list Black crappie as a species in that lake. I have fished PK since 2011 fairly hard and have not caught a crappie there since spring 2011. I've even tried minnows. I always catch fish but they are sand bass and stripers.

Great catch.

Nice catch, I went last week caught one crappie (nice big one almost 2 lbs.) and one nice black bass. Tried jigs all day long, finally put on a minnow and that's when I caught them. Was in a small cove, so did not catch anything else. But at least I caught one in PK, I let them go as I can't see cleaning one fish. The bass don't count as that is not what I was trying for.

Tom: One fish makes a nice lunch.

A PK crappie is a rare treat.

I don't even want to tell you all how many hours I've messed around with trying to catch crappie on PK. You would think I'm an idiot. But what I generally do is go catch some stripers and/or sandies and then just mix things up a little by poking around for the crappies. I will tell you all the structure they are in is no different than on any other lake, except one thing.... trees that have moss clinging to the branches underwater. Some coves have it, others do not.

I would not think you are an idiot. I could show you pics of my crappie adventues on Pk but hardly any crappie. Just Black Bass, sandies and stripers. I even used minnows and caught stripers. Guess I'll just keep at it.
