I went out to my favorite spot Monday morning. The wind was blowing in directly on that bank. I caught 34, all white bass. I tried the spot last night and didn't catch a single fish. Once again, the evening bite has been poor for bank fishing. The lack of wind blowing in didn't help either.

This morning Jacob called me. We went out to a different place. As soon as we got there we started catching a few, but it was slow. So we headed off in different directions. I wasn't catching much so I headed back to the original spot. Jacob was waiving me over to where he was. He had moved around the bank to a spot where the wind was blowing directly in on the bank. By the time I got to him he had already caught 17.

It was insane. We caught fish on almost every cast for the next hour. I had waded out with the fly rod. The fish were surfacing like crazy and twice they were actually surfacing all around me. The great part was that we weren't only catching white bass but also catching lots of 16 inch plus hybrids. This was the first big time surfacing action I saw this year. Around 8:15 the bite started to slow down for us as the surfacing activity had moved out into deeper water. They were still very active though. We quit around 8:45. It should be a great year

Things to do:
1. Find a job that will allow me to fish morning and evening (with same or better pay).
2. Make my 5 yr. old learn to ride the bus.
3. Learn to use a fly rod.
4. Follow J-Moe around.

1. Worked for GE the last 16 years and they allow working from home and flexible work arrangements.

3. You don't need a fly rod, although it's much funner. Jacob was catching just as many with spinning gear this morning.

I've had my bad days too but I've learned a few things that improve my odds.

Fish the morning bite. If I want to improve my odds in the evening I need to use the kayak. Which I don't do often.

Watch the wind overnight and in the morning. Fish the windward side of the lake or the windward side of the point, like at Welsh.

Look for the shad. Not just shad popping the water, but thousands of them right on the bank in the morning.

Watch for surfacing activity and birds diving.

Thats amazing i wade from time to time but yet to experiment being in the middle of a feeding friendzy. I've only had the chance to go in the late evening/night because of work. But from what everyone is saying the morning bite is were its at. I'm going to have to make it a morning trip this saturday.

Sounds like you are talking about Largemouth bass. Whites and hybrids are open water schooling fish. Same hints would apply for any lake.

Yes, I won't remember all the fish I caught but I'll never forget those moments. The second time it happened I looked back at Jacob and said, "Did you see that". He had of course and we just got a good laugh out of the moment.

I found myself in one of those intense frenzies once. I was camping in one of my favorite spots last year about this time, and early morning, they came. I cast out and hooked up twice before I hung up and broke off my roostertail. I grabbed a second rod with a chrome and black rattletrap tied on. Caught a couple more when I backlashed, bad. After about several minutes of trying in vain to get the backlash out, I went back to the first rod and retied. It must have taken 20 minutes to locate another roostertail and retie. I akin it to "buckfever". I could see them start to move off the bank, which only sent the fever into a fervor. I only managed to catch a few more before they moved out of casting distance (I didn't have my waders with me). I caught only a few more as the morning waned, and they weren't the size the first ones were. I learned a few things that day. Get there early, if only to establish your territory. They come and go in a flash. Have your s**t together. Calm down, but move with a purpose. I'm quite certain I would have limited out had I held to the ol' construction axiom. The 6 P's. Finally, an absolutely incredible evening bite. I suspect the biggest reason by far is the full moon. But to a lesser extent I think the fishing is just continuing to improve and I've probably been leaving to soon in the evening. I fished until 8:30 PM and was still catching them on almost every cast. I even caught 4 largemouth in the 1.5 lb. range.
