That's a hell of a bass for a creek, but your weight estimate may be a bit generous because an 8 pound 18.5" would be morbidly obese. I have a feeling he was more in the 3.5-4 pound range which is still a great bass. When it comes to culling fish, it's always a good idea to release the small to grow and the large to reproduce and cull the middle. I wouldn't feel guilty about killing a 4 pounder, although that's a great fish, there are others out there.

Estimating fish weight is always difficult. If you don't have a scale and consistently do it, it can be hard to judge. Plus keeping fish out of the water to get a weight is rough on them and most of the time not worth it. So don't beat yourself up.

You should be really proud, it took me over a year to catch my first fish of that size, so I'd say you're doing well.

Most of anglers have caught many fish that fought much bigger than they were.
A very healthy Yegua creek 4 pounder will out-fight much bigger bass out in the open lake.

It is the fight you will remember and in the Yegua "the one that gets away" will haunt you.
There are some truly big bass roaming around the lower end of the Yegua all year long and once the whitebass run is over you can have the whole creek to yourself.

This is my last post but here he is before the frying pan. After fighting this bass, I am now hooked. He took the line under my canoe and back into open water for me to reel him in. I just hope I'm not that guy who is out there looking for one monster bass instead of bringing home what's biting like crappie/white bass. I mean I do have to put food on the table lol. Also, thanks to Mr. Tedrick and a lot of guys on this forum for helping us beginner fishermen to become better anglers. Everyone had to learn from someone.

I'm a black bass angler for sure, but come spawn time for whites, my bass boat stays parked. I have taken it out a lot more this year than the years before, but I wanted to wait till the spawn got going good before I beat the banks for whites, so it has all worked out well for me. There is about two more good weeks of fishing left for these whites and I have buddies that are really on some good numbers with LMB, so I might have to hook onto the boat and go get me some. Not, I can wait till this spawn is over, the LMB will still be in good numbers for the next three months. April, May and June are three of my favorite months for catching blacks.

FishermenDesigns, I go to Fayette lake all the time because I catch fish like that one all day long. It's a slot lake so that's why there are so many larger bass in there to catch. Anything between 14 to 24 inches has to be released. It's a blast.

Brother and I headed down to Newmans this morning. Total of around 20 whites. Only kept 7 good ones. Almost all were caught shallow in the current near logs or sticks. Was hoping to find some crappie but no luck. About time to just start hitting the lake.
