We fished Irwin bridge last Sunday afternoon. From 5pm to 7:30pm. We caught 1 big white and a lot of undersized crappie. We saw a group with a stringer of nice crappie. We didn't see many other fish coming out from there.

I guess we need to get our walking shoes on and get to walking the NB mile. Sounds like that place is having more luck.

Tight lines!

Shut up and fish!

The COE closed the dam down late last week. I fished out there a couple evenings. Lots of undersized crappie, bluegill and a few nice catfish were being caught. Along with lots of buffalo, LOL. There have been very few white bass or hybrids caught. One interesting thing is that a couple undersized hybrids were caught below the dam. That's another confirmation that fish have come up from the Brazos.

The parking lot has been full at the dam but not all people are fishing below the dam. There were fisherman with about 5 poles each lined up all the way down the lake side of the dam. They have been catching catfish and hybrids. The shad have been schooling around that area and the hybrids have followed.

No signs of sunfish spawning on the main lake yet but they have started spawning in the creeks.

hello J-Moe, how far up the creek did you go? What kind of white bass activity did you notice? I had planned on taking two of my young nephews to the creek on Saturday but if it is still slow I think a trip to the marina on Friday night might be a better choice.

I haven't been back to Newman's or the Yegua. I pretty much gave up on the white bass run. The lower end of the Yegua should continue to be good for catching crappie, bluegill and lmb.

Has anyone had any luck catching white bass in the creeks after the rain on Wednesday? This is only my second year chasing them, it's addicting. Have not gone in 2 weeks, but things seemed to be slowing down. Is the run usually over by late march, early April? May go try them one last time in the morning.

Maybe you guys will get some heavy rains so the spillway will start up again.

welcome

Yes, the run is winding down now. After the last 2 rains a few whites ran up in Nails and Cedar creeks. If the Yegua is out of the banks and a mess then you might try those creeks. Last year, on 4/19/16, I was fishing for bluegill with a size 10 yellow briminator in Cedar creek and ended up catching 9 white bass out of one spot. Not likely you will catch a limit but if you size down you may catch a few, along with some bluegill, crappie and lmb.

Lake level is at 238.31. 0.31 ft above normal and has been rising the last couple days. It's likely the COE will crack open the dam in the next couple of days.

Rule of thumb is to put away white bass gear first of April for me. You can still catch a few, but boy will it be slow. Just my rule of thumb, that's all.

Thanks for the feedback. Fished Nails Saturday afternoon, it was pretty slow, managed to catch 6 keepers, 3 white bass and 3 crappie, but I had to work for them.
