This past week, I have been fishing my area lakes every day, Sam Rayburn, Toledo Bend and Livingston. As everyone knows the spawn is well underway right now and shallow is king. During this time I have seen literally hundreds of boats fishing the shallows with a great percentage of them equipped with some type of shallow water anchoring system and have yet to see anyone deploy them other than at the boat ramp. Appears to me that for the most part it might be another toy that all the cool kids gotta have. This got me to thinking, how much practical use are they? Personally I can see the value at times but the drawbacks are too great for me. There are too many places I fish in the spring that the poles sticking up above the cowling would constantly be hanging up on limbs, vines etc. and the water is quiet often too shallow to deploy them to get under such obstacles. I realize that the owners of these systems will be somewhat biased but I am curious as to just how often do you actually deploy them? I am also curious if other non system owners ever see people deploy theirs?

I was fishing on Rayburn this past weekend and wished I had them. Wind was killing me even in the shallows. All the boats around me with them put them to use at some point.

Power poles get in the way for the rear angler..Question, is the benefit of being able to anchor quickly, quietly worth the xtra money/drain on batteries? I didnt have them on my boat..

You can lower the poles to where they are no higher than your cowling and they will not be any deeper in the water than the bottom of the boat, they also act as guards to keep your cowling from getting all banged up, they are expensive and I think it depends on where and how you fish to determine if they are worth the cost, to me they are invaluable.

I just can't justify spending $4k on them. I'm sure their nice but IMO not $4k nice.

I fished yesterday and used mine prob 25 times, not counting at the ramp. Some people will spend money on things they want and some will not

I used them all the time last week when I was at Rayburn for a few days. We were up in the squirrel woods most of the time and they didn't really keep me from wiggling through the bushes and trees like I thought they might. The poles are one of the most convenient tools available.
That said, if all you fish are deep highland reservoirs that never get flooded then they'd be a waste of money.

All points on here will be valid to the most part. It comes down to are they worth it to you. There are days I use mine extensively and days when I don't use them at all. I like the fact I have them just in case I need them. I don't believe it's a vanity thing because they serve a useful purpose.

Talons don't and only require an electrical connection.

I was of similar mind when I got mine but won one and a little money so bought a second. I can't tell you how often i use them, retying, unhooking fish, sitting in shallow drains, pull up to a bush or a brushtop and I can pick it apart without being on the trolling motor. I guaranteed you you will catch more fish with them than without them, no matter which brand you buy.
