First go to YouTube and watch crappie 101, as for as what you need check crazy angler web site. He has a kit that will have most if not all you need. If after looking it over you want a better vise are something sure the guys here can help you out.

Hey there. When I first started out, I was unsure if i would like it and stick with it. I purchased the starter kit from Crazy Angler. It comes with the tools you need, and also some material. I started tying in October, and just ordered my rotary peak vise today. If you have any questions, do not be afraid to ask. I seem to ask questions every other time I am on this site. Tons of great people here with a ton of knowledge.
Also, when you get the hang of it, join a Jig Swap. It is a lot of fun, plus you get some really cool jigs returned to you. Any questions, please feel free to ask. I will help you as much as I can.
