hey guys! im not used to being on this side of the forum, i'm a hardcore bass fisherman. well i have taken interest in catching some big fish and would love to pull out a huge lake lewisville gar. what bait do you use for gar? i know some people use carp but is that legal? arent carp a game fish? my boat is in the shop so id be stuck on the shore. i do know of a cove i like to call gar cove because of how many gar will surface when you enter the cove (around 200) but houses are backed up to it so it wouldnt be accessible without a boat. i was thinking fishing on the old lake dallas dam and having some catfish and gar rods out. also how do yall normally catch your carp? i have fished for carp at the lake lewisville barge but that seems like it would take forever, are there any better ways?

tight lines, Aaron Anderson

I don't have any luck catching carp, so I use bluegill or cut bluegill.

My personal best is still swimming out there just getting bigger. One of these days I will quit feeding it.

I know that lewisville has some large longnose, but I don't believe there is a population of alligator gar in there. If you're after longnose I wouldn't bother with carp and just use bluegill like Data said.

don't fish lewisville but I fish ray hubbard and I have caught a few gar, long nose and gator. Carp can be used as bait in Texas as can bluegill. However my gar all have come off gizzard shad either whole or cut, the bait I use is 2-3 inches tall and the length is 6 inches. Carp are still a mystery to me so no input from me on how to catch them.

Carp and big blue gill work. Right now that carp and buffalo are close to the bank spawning. I have not seen any perch yet. AS for where the gar are, deep.

Is it possible to do something your whole life and still be an ameteur?
