I've got an Elite 4 DSI (2014 Lake Insight pro micro SD card is in the mail)

One of the frequently discussed design issues with the DSI models is the card slot. I was planning on inserting the Lake Insight pro SD card, then sealing it with silicone tape (from Autozone)

When I save waypoints, are they saved to the hard drive in the unit or to the micro SD card?

Is the Lake Insight SD card read only or writable?

Any problems saving waypoints with the SD card inserted? (chance of corrupting the card?)

I realize that sealing the card slot limits options such as downloading waypoints from a computer then uploading to the DSI usit or saving screen shots and uploading to a computer, but I'm fine with not doing that.

I think waypoints go on internal storage. I've got an Elite5 DSI but haven't used it for a while. I always use a Navionics card though and recall storing waypoints in that graph. The manual implies it as well. See page 41.

edit- I like that GIF in your sig, how'd you make that?

Ahhh, thanks, I stopped reading the manual at page 38 when I got to the Index.

I made the GIF via photobucket (I already had an account with them, and they have a free GIF maker on their website and phone app)

I just noticed you said you were going to use a Lake Insight Card. I think I saw a couple of those in the Bargain Cave a day or so ago if you don't already have one... Didn't notice the price but might be worth checking.

Thanks for the GIF info!

Thanks. I went to Cabela's Allen last week and the Marine sales rep looked on his computer and they were all out of stock at the time in all DFW locations, so I ordered online.
