Is there a campground at bastrop? Stayed in the cabins at South Shore Park in January, pretty sweet. Like a tent with walls, very nice for $45 a night.

I really want to put this kid on some fish - in an easy manner. Being 8 (now mind you, he LOVES fishing) but still, at 8 it's so easy to get frustrated and impatient. So some sort of easy rig is in order here.

Gibbons Creek Reservoir, is a power plant lake near College Station...been catching some nice bass there the past few weekends most above 5lbs. Gibbons is only open Friday-Sunday though.

I hope Conroe is a decent lake-we're moving to the Houston area and living on the lake was one of the things we were considering.

I live in Houston and frequent Conroe (1hr) , Fayette (1.25 hrs), Bastrop (1.5hrs), Rayburn (2.5 hrs) and Gibbons Creek (1.25hrs). I suck on Conroe so only realty like to fish it during the spring. Summer on Conroe is treacherous with all the wake boats, yachts and jet skis. I got burned out on Fayette after a couple of years because it's small but always catch good numbers. Bastrop is good for numbers too. Given a choice I pick Rayburn everytime but it's tough to do in one day. You really need to stay the night there.

Choot Bastrop or Fayette for a Kid. Coleto Creek about 2hrs south, and usually alot of fun too. Shallow fish and easy to catch.
