I swear by the Mettles. Every rod I have has one. Anyone tried the Maxim? Input?

Yes, I have a Mettle M2, a Maxim, and I bought my Dad the Motive. So far I am happy with all of them, although they are all newer purchases, I have not actually fished with the Maxim or Motive yet, but lots, looooooootttttssss of practicing in the yard and street with long casts and short casts. The Maxim seems to be a good reel, 10 BB, with a graphite frame and carbon sides. It will be getting some real workouts soon enough. I just took a chance on it when it was $29...I think it was a steal! ...------

I used it today off Duck Creek in Richardson, and learned a few things from Mr. Bogey! I didn't take photos, but I will tomorrow. I'll probably taken another 1.5 hours during lunch tomorrow to try again. Addendum: The photo is of my Dad's H20 Motive, with a Berkley Cherrywood rod...both are very nice for what's considered "budget" gear! ...------

I meant to say I used the "Maxim" today, but will take Maxim pix tomorrow if I bring any fish in. The previous photos are of my Dad's charcoal gray Motive.

I had two bedded down bass laughing at me today at Crowley Park/Richardson. No matter what I did, they wouldn't bite, but I did use my Maxim. For being new to baitcasters, I did alright. I wonder how many of you seasoned pros still get a backlash on occasion? Regarding the reel, it's smooth, retrieves well and suits me. My mishaps I'd venture to guess are "user" blamed, not the reel. ...------

I also picked one up when they were $29, I really like this reel. I actually swapped out my Curado on my worm rod for this reel because it fits better in my hand. Wish I would have picked up a couple more when they were on sale.
Indiannation, everyone gets a backlash from time to time, something that I think will help you reduce the number you are getting is to spool your reel full. It looks like there isn't enough line on your reel, there should be just about 1/8" of the gold spool showing when it's full. That was something that took me a while to learn and once I started doing it that really helped reduce the backlashes.

Yes, you are correct Mr. _K, I was just thinking that yesterday. Today, I will either restring, or just add more line to the existing. I don't know if it matters much to add 15 flouro to 12 mono...is that okay?

I personally don't think it'll hurt, there shouldn't be much difference in the diameter. It would be like using backing when spooling up with braid, I do that on my reels that I run braid on.

I just picked up the out going Manic model for 27 at the academy in Grapevine. They also had the shimano caius 200 going for 34 but after messing with both for a bit I decided on the manic, it felt a little nicer plus hearing about the awesome warranty on the reels made me decide on it. I only went in for some new line but came out with line and a new reel haha

Everyone get backlash. But with a smooth reel and correct adjusting. That backlash is only a matter of 1 pull or 2 pull of the line to fix it.
When putting braid on. I like to tie the braid then tape the braid. Wont have any slipping.

x-68863 6.3 to 1 ratio with centrifugal brake system, its the black one that looks just like a mettle. The newer ones they had but not for the price looked white with magnetic brakes, didn't check to see if it also had a centrifugal brake.

I have 4 of the Mettes. I found it pretty cool when the guy at the reel counter said they were made by Shimano. Best feels I've ever fished with.

The next one I'm getting will be a mettle for sure. The manic I got for 27 is really good so far but I've heard the mettles are liked more. The grapevine academy doesn't carry the mettles so I'll have to check out other academy's to see when they're in sale. Also any word if there will be a mettle update like some of the other models. If so I hope they keep the centrifugal brakes

I've heard a lot of positive reviews on these reels, even from people using them in salt water. But I've never heard they were made by Shimano. Hhhmmmm....
