Thinking seriously about putting LED strip lights in my main cargo boxes. My gut tells me to use red to keep my night sight from being effected too much but not sure how useful it would be as opposed to a brighter white. Blue would be an option as well. Suggestions?

Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways with a fishing rod in one hand, 10# LMB in the other, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and yelling "Wow! What a Ride!

You can add a dimmer to the wiring and it will solve that problem.

I had blue in mine but put white in them after a few times out. Put them facing out form you and they won't affect your vision much. The blue made it hard to tell color and I found it hard to see any detail.

I put white strips in mine. Lights shinning down and tucked up far enough you can't see them from looking in without looking for them. That way there is no direct light to interfere with night vision.

IT works great because I can open them up and find and / or tie something if need be under the surface of the compartment. Then close the lid and they are all hidden.

they make different brightness. I believe the 3850s are the dimmer ones. I put the 5050s under my bed rails in my truck and they are pretty bright. I have a left over piece I am going to mount under my dash in the boat. If I remember when it gets dark I will take a pic of the little strip I added under the dash in my truck. Not sure if the bed lights will give the right perspective.

I put white in mine and as others have stated placed them so the light isn't shining directly into my eye. I put them in both rod boxes, tackle storage areas and in the back. Now that I have them installed, I don't know why it took me so long to do it. What a difference.

I'll try and remember to get a picture to show how well it lights them up. But you can go on the websites Blue water lights I think and they have nighttime photos, that are pretty accurate.

Here are pics of the ones in my truck. You can kind of see the diff between shining down and to the side.

That one shining down is more like what it looks like in my rod boxes. I don't even see the harsh glow from the strips though. They are tucked back far enough in you can't even see that.

I did do all storage compartments except the ice chest. The bilge area is the only one that was not wrapped all the way around the opening.

I only had just enough left to do one side.

I also found them cheap on eBay and / or Amazon. less than 20 bucks for a 16ft roll and all came form an American shipper.

put white LED's from Blue Water in my sons boat. Put them in every box plus the livewell, yep even in the livewell, helps finding the fish when fishing working mans tourneys. Wired them to the same switch used for the original interior boat lights. Used a hot glue gun to help with sticking them on. Also used the glue gun to secure the wires around the boat.
