I opted to not mount any. In my Bass Baby, I simply lay them on the side "trays", 5 or 6 on each side - usually 3 facing forward, 3 facing back, on each side. I simply go through to much thick brush to use rod holders. This +1

I mounted the transducer to my buster by screwing it directly onto the stern. I sealed the snot out of it with marine grade silicone and Bondo. Haven't had a leak in 6 years. I mounted the head unit to one of the side rails the same way. Just some stainless screws, Bondo, and marine silicone.
