I mounted the transducer to my buster by screwing it directly onto the stern. I sealed the snot out of it with marine grade silicone and Bondo. Haven't had a leak in 6 years. I mounted the head unit to one of the side rails the same way. Just some stainless screws, Bondo, and marine silicone.
