If you tow... Diesel! The power train will last 5 x longer than gas and lightweight transmissions

You should have faith... I can go 1300 miles on land and 400 miles on water with 1 tank of gas. I need some adventure I wanna catch a 200 pound game fish. I am 4 an a half hour from freeport and im thinking about giving it a go. I ha e been offshore now probably 20 times but ne er in texas water. I actually have a cabin to rent really cheap in grand isle if anyone wants to make a trip down there I can set you up with a cabin and a guide everything and for a fair price. It is great to be out there at night with the lights on you can catch tuna Im pull an all nighter at the falcon rig with the lights on and a snorkel will really get your heart pumping.

Mark, looking at the photo of your rig, I'll repeat myself. Launch from eastern Louisiana if you want to fish for big tuna with your boat. Look up "midnight lump" and you should be able to find BIG tuna.

From Freeport, its about 80 miles minimum to places like the tequila rigs that consistently hold tuna. To find bigger yellowfin, you generally have to get to the deepwater platforms which are in the neighborhood of 120-150 miles out.

Even if you have the fuel capacity to get there & back with enough safety margin, the yellowfin will mostly be in the 30-80# size range. Out of Louisiana, they tend toward 100+ up to 200 pounds.

The Shelf is 70m from the freeport jetties. long run makes the cat a nice choice.
you can find blackfin there at night, but your best bet for tuna with the boat pictured is
wait till summer & chase the shrimpers when they are dragging in deep areas
you will not find any consistent Yellowfin until the floaters (boomvang is closest, 110+ from freeport)
if you want big 200# stuff, there are TONS of very large sandbar/dusky/hammerhead sharks at the shelf rigs
along with big groupers & massive prehistoric eels.
