wow. is that pic from evening hole? I dont even recognize the water.
The trout adapt. Will it be as easy as usual? no... But there will still be hungry fish if you know where to look.

Guys-
I'm as disappointed as everyone else. But, I went through a similar situation when I lived in KY, and we would trout fish the Cumberland River immediately below Wolf Creek Dam. The earthen portion of the dam was leaking water at a significant rate. The Corp drew down the water level and started repairs. At one point, the Corp was releasing 33,000+ CFS! If it hadn't been winter, I think you could have surfed the waves. You should have seen it, it almost flooded out the trout hatchery below the dam. I talked to my neighbor who worked for the Corp at the Louisville office. He told me that the top priorities are:
1) Protect the dam to avoid a breach.
2) Maintain an adequate level of impounded water, and
3) Generate hydro power when needed.
The Wolf Creek repairs took 5 years to complete. So 45-60 days for LMF isn't bad. The Cumberland was thought to be toast for the following 5 years, but it recovered within 6 months or so.
I'm not defending the Corp, but I bet that LMF will recover fairly quickly. Timing is lousy I agree, right at the start of Spring quest for trout.

The sense I get is that it hasn't even been particularly damaged, just rearranged slightly the way you get regularly in a more natural stream without governed flow. Heck, it may even help it by washing away silt. Heck, if it does improve the health of the stream, perhaps the Foundation shouls request that they flood it a little every year.

Wow! Hope no one was hurt. I wish that Lake Texoma is full, and Corp release the water from flood gate.

From LMFRF president Pat Waters yesterday:
Hello,
Yesterday morning at around 8:30 the USACE shut the tainter gates on Spillway. The flow is somewhere around 125cfs.
They are letting 8000 cfs out through the turbines in an effort to get the lake level down (7 feet high).
But this is not any implication that the high water situation is over. Rumors abound and you may assume that they will open the gates again before the rain and the turbine work is complete - or they finish destroying the trout stream.
I have not seen Spillway Creek. Didn't bother since CW says they will let more water out. I'm going to wait.
But I fished from the Cold Hole down to the bottom of Evening Hole. And up Lost Creek. It is excellent! My first fish was a nice brown on a dry fly in the middle of the Evening Hole. There are lots of subtle changes. There is a big change to the one run above the bluff hole but in the pouring rain, it was difficult to judge the severity of the difference, but it's holding trout.
Lost Creek looks and fishes better than ever! We just need a few fish put in there. But the ankle holes are all filled in, pools have been washed out along with a lot of the snags and are deeper. Some holes have straightened a bit and flow better. We could not have engineered this improvement.
