Curious, do you ALWAYS use a trailer on your jig? Is there a time that you would not?
Am trying to, well will start concentrating on using jigs this year.
Probably pretty basic question, but if not sure...ASK !
So ??

Yes, I always use a trailer on my jig. ALWAYS. What I do vary is the size of the trailer and type/brand of trailer. Just depends on what the fish are telling me.

I always do, most times it will be a rage craw. Also use paca craw, Berkley chigger craw and ZOOM chunks occasionally. For football jigs I use baby brush hogs some as well. Swim jigs typically a skinny dipper or swimming fluke.

Yes I always use a trailer on my jig. I think it completes the craw fish or bait fish look (depending on the jig and trailer you choose to use). As you know there are a many different trailers to choose from for a craw look or for a bait fish look and tons of colors out there also. If im throwing a black/blue jig most of the time I will use a black/blue glitter, black/ blue claw, or a solid blue trailer. When I throw a jig that is more of a brown or green pumpkin color I will use a trailer color that in some way has an accent color in it to match some color in the jig. Peanut butter n jelly jig with a green pumplin/purple trailer. With that I have a brownish jig that has purple glitter in the skirt the purple glitter in the trailer compliments the glitter in the skirt. The green pumpkin adds another color so I have a brown/green/purple glitter combo.

Sometimes a total contrast works also, black/blue jig with a green pumpkin trailer.

A green pumpkin/orange jig combo is a good choice this time of year.

I always use a trailer. Mainly a 4" berkley chigger craw. I down size to a 3 inch or a speed craw if I don't get the bites on the 4".

I always use some sort of trailer with a jig. I use allot of the same color selections ezbassin mentioned earlier.

If you look on YouTube, Gerald Swindle will tell you, you need a brown jig & a black/blue jig with matching trailers. The rest doesn't matter because it's a reaction strike anyway.

Truth is jig fishing is a little slower than other lures, but will catch the biggest fish in the lake. You just have to slow down and fish for 5 bites, usually one of them will be the right one.

Always use a trailer..Usually a rage tail, once again about the fall, brush hogs are good trailers 3/8 jig, or 1/2 if you are looking for reaction drop, or swimming a jig..in the slop or..on top..

here on the Tennessee River system...I will, sometime, use a #4 willow leaf or Colorado blade instead of a traditional plastic trailer....creates a good thump then you "stroke" the jig..... thumb

I don't think watermelon and June bug go together but it worked! I'm sure color selection has a lot less to do with it than I think. Beaver trailer

I always use a trailer.

Best way to learn jig fishing is go fishing with someone who has more experience or you can teach yourself.

Best way to teach yourself is take every bit of tackle out of your boat except jigs. Go to the lake and start fishing with nothing but a jig.

I'll add...to get good a jig fishing you have to have confidence in jigs.

Best of luck and let us know how you did.

CTA, good advice, will do. Coach, man that is a HOG! Guess so much for the 'color matching'....LOL, may work some of the time but, not always.
Nicely done....
Lot's of good advice here...
Apparently, the answer to my second question is a definite no. Never use just a jig with no trailer.
Thanks for the many replies.
All VERY GOOD information
God Bless

I always wonder if color matters more to us than them. Why does it have to be matching colors? Isn't contrasting colors good at times?

roflmao Looks to me at least, like you pretty much disproved the theory of 'having to match' colors to attract a good bite! thumb

Guess I don't really know a lot . I have used different colored trailers for close to thirty years. That is the way I always thought you was suppose to rig them
