Took a trip down to Amistad with my dad this past week and had an allright trip. Had never been there before and enjoyed the trip. Beautiful lake. Bait of choice was a c-rig Senko on or near points in 15-30 ft depth with 40+ft close by. Fished mostly the Devils River arm. Water temps were 54-56 all week. Weather was mostly uncooperative with it being cloudy windy and cold then windy, and then warmer then freezing and windy then sunny and coold.. For a coupe of Amistad first timers in crappy weather we did pretty good. Ended the week with about 35 fish over five days so I have no complaints. Best fish of the week was this 8.5lber caught Thursday. Had to cut the hook off in her because she was throat hooked but not gillhooked. Thank god she swam away and seemed fine.

8.5 lber

5 lber

..and a couple of nice bonus smallies!

That's a pretty good trip with those conditions. I have fished amistad more than any lake and that is a typical weather pattern. Glad to see some descent size caught. Haven't been in a couple of years due to the low levels and slow fishing. My last trip was a tourney and my buddy caught 2 smallies both up the Rio believe it or not.

Great fish!!! There is a trick to getting the hook out and it won't hurt the fish as bad as leaving the hook in the throat. Maybe somebody can find a video and post it on here.

That looks like a great haul! You might want to keep a bottle of peroxide in your boat. Just pour a little down her throat a minute before releasing her to quickly stop the bleeding. Headed down there myself next week and hoping to bag a few!

Deep Hooked Bass Hook Removal

Is this the one?

Nice Fish, don't think it will rust out, but they have a way of working hooks out on their own sometimes. Don't worry too much about it, mate! cheers

That fish would have been well over 8.5 if not already spawned out. frown

You guys did great! Our club of 20 guys fished 7-8th and didn't weight anything over 5lbs and no where near 35 fish. Great report and glad you guys found quality numbers! BASS Champs is just around the corner maybe you guys should think about it!
