At the falcon champs i blew a #6 cylinder on my 2004 Yamaha hpdi 225

I have been quoted over $8,000 to fix it, and there is no way I am doing that

Anyone have any suggestions?

Sounds like a fair price to install a new power head you should get a warranty with that also.

Sounds high shop around not sure of your location but have had friends get a 250 done around lake fork for 5500 with a one year warranty

Ummm... Not a chance.

You have to make a decision... Rebuild, find a new powerhead to replace, or buy a similar used engine. You can buy a newer engine with less hours on it for less than $8,000. But that one could go boom too... It depends on your damage, but rebuilding could cost you somewhere around $3,000 - $5,500.

I have the exact same engine as you and just dealt with this. Eventually decided to have mine rebuilt.

It will depend on where you get the power head from or if they are rebuilding it for you. I got a rebuilt one with a one year warranty for $3k and another $800 to do the install. That was a merc but a Yamaha shouldn't be that much worse.
