What's your preference? I'm leaning towards the fish grips just because they won't take up so much room.

I prefer a net and the biggest you can comfortably manage for larger fish. Smaller fish can get hand lipped.

Works great until you accidentally catch a big, angry gar. When that happened to me, I was thankfully bank fishing and not in my yak. I, too, need either grippers or a net.

A net is a PITA but is very helpful at times. If you're catching big Smallmouth Buffalo, carp or whisker fish, very handy I use a net and grips depending on the situation, I don't always have my net but I always have my grips. If you get a net make sure and get one big enough and one that is fish friendly, rubber or rubber coated.
I've never been good, But I've been Lucky! I don't Lie or Exaggerate, but sometimes I remember BIG!

Fingers don't take any extra room and work moderately well as long as you are not fishing for something toothy.
RealBigReel I don't go too fast but I go pretty far.

I believe that a rubber net is easier on a fish than grippers or hand landing it, especially when water temps are high and the potential for harming the fish from overstressing it is greatest. I can land the fish a whole lot quicker with the net or the grippers, and unhook it & release it with less handling. I've seen some people wreck a fish's jaw with grippers. I've used the grippers on toothy critters, but greatly prefer the net. In the winter I sometimes land them without a net, but the net makes it easier. Sometimes you really have to exhaust a fish before you can hand land it, or even get the grippers on its jaw.

I am new to the grips. Ive used a net forever. If i had to pick it would be the net. I do use both. Grips are a very handy tool.

This is a 42" Northern Pike we caught a while back, you can see his lower jaw is ruined due to fish grips. If a big fish gets unruly while being held with grips this can happen, Be Careful.

Last week temp was -33 deg with a 52" Ice Cap on the lake, I don't do Ice Fishing.

I have both but usually just use my fish grip. I agree that it depends on what you are going for. I use my grips when I go saltwater. Hand works great for bass.

Sometimes you really have to exhaust a fish before you can hand land it, or even get the grippers on its jaw. I agree 100% With a net it seems to calm the fish and allows you to remove the hook easily. I've had a ten pound blue cat make a sudden burst while I had a hold of it with plastic fish grips, and the cat twisted from my grip and swam off with the grip in it's lower lip.
Just one more cast!
