one thing for sure
hybrid sunfish sure have some range on patterns and colors
this little pond has mostly smaller hybridized sunfish by the herds
but they come in a bunch of variations thumb

Not sure, the girlfriend was playing around with the camera. Here's another shot of the same fish, maybe you guys could tell me. It was a private pond that was managed so it really could be anything I guess.

Looks like it could possibly be a Coppernose Bluegill x Native Bluegill Hybrid, maybe. Thanks for sharing!

Pretty sure that is what it is, but "hybrid" is a bit of a misnomer. Both are bluegills and of the same species, easily breed together, have viable offspring, and fit the definition of the same species, but two varieties, or perhaps sub-species. Technically such a fish would be called an "intergrade," as opposed to a "hybrid."

Still, a very pretty fish and an astute observation as to its genetic makeup.

These are common in private waters, less so in public, as the coppernose variety is very popular and produced in many hatcheries for sale to private lake and pond owners.
