Just curious on y'all's opinions of trolling motor batteries. Currently running Interstate SRM-27's (36 volt system) How do the Optima blue tops compare as far as lasting all day in the wind. From what I've read they don't have the reserve capacity of the wet cell batteries, but I don't know anyone who has had them. If you've used both which do you prefer?

If you have a Batteries Plus or a sams club nearby take a look at the Duracell group 31 Batteries there rebranded Deka's or find a Deka dealer . there AGM or wet cell batteries are great used them for year's with no problem's

I have the blue top optimas. Even though they show fewer reserve minutes than flooded cells that I have owned in the past they have plenty of power at the end of the day even if it is windy. I'm thinking there must be a difference in how they are rated.

My optimas are near the end of their 4th year.

Hadn't thought about batteries plus thanks for the idea. I was wondering if they were rated the same way as far as the optimas and wet cell. The extra money would be worth it if they can take a day of wind which usually blows around central texas and lasting 4 yrs would be nice. Fished a tourney on Whitney last weekend w/25-30 winds and interstates were done at 11am.

Are the Exide Spiral core batteries from Academy any good? They always seem to be sold out but have mixed reviews on them. I need two right now and am trying to find a good low maintenance battery so I don't have to worry about them too much.

I have never used exides always heard negative things about them so didn't want to chance it . Deka's have been great for me never a problem .Have had good and bad with Interstate but there new Pro ECL series seems like it would be decent . The newer Walmart Everstart Batteries I will never buy wouldn't keep a charge in a friend's boat had them replaced twice and finally got a refund and he bought a Duracell .

Good info, thanks. I'd like to go with 31's but that would add about 25lbs compared to the 27's. Don't really want to add any more weight to the Ranger Z21, but after the first run of the morning guess it really doesn't matter.

Bittercreek Im not 100% sure the Everstart is a Interstate SRM29 that's what the word is about them but if they are it's a cheapened version of it even though both are JCI . I haven't ran them or Interstates in years since I switched to Deka so maybe they once were and changed .

I have good and bad about the Everstarts. I'm thinking they may both be made by JCI, but something has to be different for them to be $50-70 cheaper.

They are both made by JCI . If i had to guess the plate's are thinner on the everstarts vs the Interstate to make them cost effective for Walmart
