Folks, TxG3DV is currently at 15 fishermen. That's not good enough. Got one question; Would the August 1st-2nd weekend be favorable for anyone that is interested but can't do the current reserved dates/weekend(August 8th-9th)? We can look into moving the charter to the opening dates of AJ season, August 1st-2nd if that would increase commitments to the charter.

Feel free to text, email, or post up if that makes it possible for you to fish TxG3DV.
BTW, price is the same for TxG3DV in 2015 as it was for 2014.

I wouldn't mind getting on this trip and could go either date. I've been on one or two of the deep drop derbies in the past and had a good time. My only problem is that I might get on another charter in August and can't do both. I've just been waiting to see if this trip would get enough people to go.

Well, you lose one, you rig one.

we are still working on filling the remaining spots up... hopefully we can get enough to commit to make this trip a go... we are looking at a few options with the fishermen who have already signed up to get the deposit to FW covered...

I don't hang around here much, more on THF and the other fishing forum. Anyway, I'm considering jumping on this charter and/or TOO's 54 hour trip. I've never gone out on a head boat and only been snapper fishing once or twice and that was 10 yrs ago, or so. Anyway, can you give me any feedback on what the trip and type of fishing is like.

Also, what kind of tackle would be required. I have some reels that I could take off of surf rods (sealine 20, saltist b/g 30, sealine 40, Fin Nor offshore 7500) all spooled with around 50 lbs braid. Would any of those work if I picked up rods to pair them with?

I have been on all of these trips and have caught some good fish. Usually the trip goes like this...Head out of Port A at 6am and drive for about 4 hours or so and start fishing. Might stop at a rig or 2 before we start fishing for the big boys and catch some BIG bait. We fish all day the first day primary target is Amber Jack and Grouper. Usually other fish will be caught as well such as King Mackerel, Cobia, African Pompano, Sharks, and tons of Red Snapper (which will be out of season :(). If a spot is producing well we will stay for a pretty good while, if not we will move on pretty quickly. Around dusk we will find a spot to fish for Blackfin Tuna and late at night we will stop and fish for Vermillion Snapper until the sun comes up. Then it's off again for the big boys at first light. Head back to Port A late in the morning and arrive around 2 or so. As far as gear goes MY opinion is that you can easily get by with one or two rods no problem. One of them will need to be able to handle fish in the 50-70lb range and the other for smaller fish like snapper. I have seen Amber Jack close to 90lbs caught on this trip in the past but my biggest is probably around 65. Good size Grouper are sometimes caught and last year I caught a 50lb Warsaw. Sharks will give you a heck of a fight also. If you are going to fish for smaller fish like Vermillion snapper I would not want to use the same big rod that I use for the big boys but you could if you needed to. A lot of guys also like to jig from time to time, especially for tuna. That could be a good 2nd rod. A good jigging rod will be able to catch most of the fish we will be targeting from big to small. If you had these two set ups you would be pretty well covered. Jigs, hooks, weights...that's a whole new topic.

I wish I could but I just jumped on a trip in the Keys and probably can't do both. Good luck and I hope the trip works out.
