Went down to the jetty here in Surfside to catch a few sheepshead. They were biting here and there but most were well undersized. That didn't seem to deter a lot of folks of a certain eastern persuasion from keeping every dang one they could hook. It also seemed like they thought the limit of 5 was just a suggestion. I've seen it many times before, but this time they were really hauling them in.
I could call the game warden again but last couple of times I called, he never showed up.

Sorry for the rant, but I feel a little better now.

Don't get me started..

I would call. The one time he showed up would make all of the other calls worth it.

Those game wardens are spread pretty thin, and more often than not they are too far away to make it there in time to do any good. Don't give up just because you can't get them there every time. You can go to TPWD's website and find cellular numbers for the wardens working the areas you fish and hunt. Text them photographs of the violators and their vehicles when you can; they may not catch them this time, but a bunch of documented complaints about an individual goes a long way when he finally does get caught. The fish and game those people steal belong to all of us.

I see it way to often down here. Best thing is when they post photos of it and the GW hunts them down! I love those stories on facebook of them doing that.

Yeah that's bs. Keeping undersized sheepshead is rediculous I don't even like messing with them unless there big. When we call game thief here they get our number and the warden calls back.

...here is what I would do. Use your smartphone and take some videos. Make sure Ya ham it up and tell them what a good job they are doing being some real fishermanz!! Talk them into holding up the fish at the back of their vehicle and make sure the license plate shows. Send the pics to the Game Wardens and let them do their work. There are a couple of people in the Office that look for stuff like this and they will get busted pronto. Remember that asswagon that had the tailgait full of bull reds last year??

They stock neighborhood ponds under a program.
If they stock 500 fingerling catfish in an average year, then why are there none left at the end of the year.
It is obvious.

Although it may help, you don't NEED video or pictures, just a way to i.d. them.(ie:license plate)
Let me share a story of how the game warden can work, if they want to.
10 years ago, when I lived in the country, we had a bunch of deer out behind our property. It was NOT deer season. My neighbor was tempted to shoot one, but was too scared. So, he started telling a bunch of people about all these deer. Well, one guy that he told, said, "I aint scared, I'll shoot one."
So my neighbor took the guy to his house and showed him the deer. With a rifle belonging to my neighbor, the other guy shot a doe. They cleaned it and split up the meat. At this point, no one knew about this but these two men. Well, a few days later, the guys just couldn't stand it, and started bragging around town about it.
Less than a week from when they shot the deer, a game warden showed up at my neighbor's house with a $350(I think) ticket for shooting the deer.
The gw had heard the story through rumor! My neighbor said, "I didn't shoot it, the other guy did."
The gw said, "Too bad!you were involved." My neighbor said, "You don't have any proof."
The gw said,"Well, here's what we can do. You can either take this ticket and just pay it and be done, or, I can arrest you, search your house and property for evidence(he had meat in his freezer), confiscate your guns and you'll have to get a lawyer to try to beat this charge. I'll let you decide what you want to do." hammer
My neighbor chose the ticket.
Wouldn't you?

Happy fishing!
God bless

Yep, it's disheartening. I've seen people in Palacios and Matagorda keeping 15+ undersized specks. Not sandies. Last time I was there some guy was keeping 3 bull reds that I watched him catch, and I stopped to ask whether they were tagged. He just laughed and said something to the effect that a couple friends had caught and tagged the other two, and he was just the one carrying them. Whatever.

+1

If they'll hold still for video & photos, I'd do it too.

We can call officials, take pictures and videos but these kinda people are going to stay. If we keep the as minority then everything should be fine. Sometimes I go near for a chat, direct the talk so that they eventually show the catches and then enjoying their embarrassed faces. Many of them hopefully will stick to the size measurements next time.
