Last Summer while vacationing at San Luis Pass,I saw a newly constructed (and very expensive looking) fishing pier extending out into Christmas Bay, from what looked like a private property on the opposite side of the highway from the old San Luis Pier site...I think it was actually in Cold Pass, between the bay and the San Luis Park.Does anyone know if that pier ever opened to the public,or is it in fact a private use pier? Just wondering, cause I'm heading back down there this spring.

It's a private pier for the property owners right there. The water in the area only gets about 3 feet deep on average so I'm not really sure about the whole point of a pier anyway.

Thanks Palehorse. That's what it looked like at the time, but I couldn't imagine only one owner spending that much money on a private pier,as nice as it is,that had to cost a fortune to build, and the only people fishing it were boaters anchored up around it (including us)...Oh well,I appreciate them giving us some structure to cast baits at! Didn't catch anything but a couple of small stingrays there last year, but this year may be better, who knows?

I'd be ignoring that pier and working that marsh on both sides of it and across the pass from it. But...... when you get some clear water in the pass the specks and smacks can get pretty thick in there at times.

Thanks for the tip,Jim...I will check those areas out this time when I go.Last time the water was so shallow,I was afraid to venture very far from the center of Cold Pass, but this time I'm planning to bring a push-pole with me and try to learn my way around there a little better.
