I throw rattle baits a lot....looking for a good rod for 1/4 to 1/2oz. maybe up to 3/4oz. rattle baits. Would be nice if the rod sold for under $200. I've been using a pair of BPS 7' Crank'nSticks but keep losing bass after the hookup....even had one throw a bait near the boat and left it hanging from the bill of my hat! So whats your 2cents on rattlebait rods?

Crank'nstick isn't a bad choice. Falcon Bucoo 7' MH is not bad either for your price range or you can search the boards for a like model used dobyns. Are you throwing Bill Lews Rattle trap? They come with 1x triple grips on them and are superior hooks. Red eye shad and et al have cheap hooks that flex too much. Try replacing your hooks and I bet more of those fish stay on. Mustad, Owner my only choices for replacement hooks.

I have been using a Falcon low rider XG LFC-4-166 medium action 6'6". it has been a great trap rod for me and I use it for my jerkbaits too.

I was assuming you would be fishing it in grass too. Medium rod doesn't rip it through grass as well IMHO, but that's just me. The Bucoo has a softer tip than most in that class.

I try to throw a mixed bag of size/make/model depending on many things....usually change the hooks to VMC9651 round bend short shank. Your advise on using Triple Grip hooks for rattle baits makes a lot of sense.....thanks. Lots of bass fishermen speak highly of the Falcon Bucoo rod for rattle baits.....

Falcon Cara 4 power has been a great rod for me for many years. I do still carry one of the original Castaway Academy rods that's perfect too, wished they still made that exact rod..

Looking at Falcon rods on TackleWarehouse site.....there's several lines of Cara and I'm not sure about the 4 power?? Any particular model numbers for the rattle bait rod?

Loomis IMX 783 -- you can find a lightly used one in the $150-180 range. With braid I can rip traps all day. A lot of other rods I've tried simply wore me out after an hour or two.

Should be a CC-4-166 or CC-4-17

the middle number is the power and the last number is the length

But I have never had issue with cranking sticks just like a quicker tip for traps than the mod-slow action u get with the composite blanks. That KLX will flat junk a 3/4oz trap the tip loads up then the back bone of the rod helps hurl it.

My favorite is a Duckett White Ice 7'3" MH Casting Rod. Model # DFWI73MH-C.

If I'm having to rip them out of grass, a Gloomis 843C IMX rod.

Does everyone buy Buccos because of their price? I bought a couple several years ago for worms and jigs. They had -0- sensitivity compared to my Loomis rods and the actions seemed weird. Not enough tip, more like a broom handle.
