Edit to the TFF regarding the suggest offshore charter in the title.

After discussing with Dolphin Docks in Port Aransas the cost of a 12 hour state water charter, Texas Outdoor Organizers retracts this suggested charter plan due to the total cost expense of chartering their boat, the "Captain Paul". The price quoted to T.O.O. was very much more than expected and that makes it economically unfeasible to consider a 12 hour charter with the suggested 15-25 fishermen.

T.O.O. has a call to the captain of the CP to discuss other options available to make this charter happen. However, as of now T.O.O. will not proceed with trying to plan this type charter unless we can provide an economically feasible charter plan that meets the fishing criteria suggested above.

We will investigate the option of fishing out of South Padre Island with the same fishing plan if there is enough interest and if the price is feasible.

We regret this fishing charter plan does not seem to be doable at a practical price for each fishermen. We have deleted the charter thoughts and information posted by T.O.O. until such time T.O.O. can provide the right charter options for doing a state water charter trip.

Politicians, baseball players, high-powered corporate CEO's they all seem to eventually let us down. Nature, however, does not. Look to her for inspiration and you will learn the secrets to living a good life. The most Important lesson it would seem is to make sure you spend as much time fishing as anything else.

glad you're interested Bazz, however we've edited the original post and as of now this charter is a no go at the current pricing and charter time length.

Call Ned or Julie with the Bluefin, much closer, less driving about 13-15 max fishermen and forget the snapper and shark fish with other bottom fish. Should be about $230 total, 1st class operation.

I sure hate to see this trip cancelled, thanks anyway.

Problem is the BF can't fish (maybe not keep state water fish) state waters as a fed permitted boat. Group would be limited to one Blacktip shark for the whole boat and have to fish federal water. Blacktip/spinners get up behind shrimpboats as they drag right off the beach real shallow in early May.

Agree the BF is a great offshore platform, and we could post up a multiple of bookings with them or other charters and they'd fill eventually. We rarely initiate charters on forums now unless someone wants to make a charter happen. This state water charter thought was an idea we had on focusing on a combo charter with a lesser known type/style fishing and some bonus red snapper and possibly other fish.

Kinda like when the first long range tuna trips out of Texas through the internet were being privately chartered, kinda new and different at the time. Now plenty of copying being done, sometimes with bad results.

We'll see what transpires with a state water trip, hooking large blacktips in 30-50' of water means they've got one way to go, and it's a blast having them come skying out of the water.

Change to a bottom fishing trip on the BF, it would fill.

I have some friends that have been doing these trips on the Capt. Paul. When they do a state water 12 hour trip they run back towards Matagorda about 30 - 35 miles from Port A and they catch some serious red snappers. They have been catching a lot of redfish and drum lately too.

Maybe come May their approach to fishing changes but I have no interest in catching sharks of any kind or size. But the rigs they travel to on these trips should be covered up with Ling in early May. now catching a 30 - 40 lb. Ling would interest me. Yessuh!

Seems like a South Padre/Port Mansfield trip would be worthwhile and not too terribly expensive, as the partyboat down there runs state water trips regularly.

Be cautious, I was on a bay boat at a rig off of Matagorda Island in early February when the Capt. Paul arrived from another rig. We watched them keep both redfish & red snapper on their "state water" trip. The problem was the rig we were fishing was 12 miles off the beach & they were alternating between it & another rig that was 15 miles out. The water was 80 - 95 feet deep, whereas state water in the the area is only a little over 70 ft.
Are there red snapper in state water up towards Matagorda? Yes, but at least at the state water rigs a lot of them are undersized & when legal sized fish are found, there are not enough to supply a party boat with action.

Beats the trail of dead/floating red snapper you see unvented or vented with a big stick from a filet knife trailing behind the Wharf & Scat Cats on the far rocks offshore.
