Well my fishing vacation just keeps getting better. I started Friday morning at Overlook Marina. The bluegill have not moved up into the shallow waters yet but they are seeing a few staging in deeper water. I fished about an hour and caught 2 small bluegill.

I ran over to my favorite bluegill pond and caught about 8 bluegill. The biggest going over 10 inches.

Finally, after spending a little time chasing bass with conventional gear I headed over to the ranch to chase longear. Bingo, I only caught 2 longer, in addition to 6 greenies and 3 bass. But those longear were beautiful. Not as beautiful as the ones in the San Marcos river. But for a pond the are a real treat to catch and behold. Even one of the greenies was showing off his best colors today. Mating is in full bloom in the ponds!!!! banana

From about 5 minutes ago.

Good news is, its green, not white. I'm just gonna take my fly rod out there to see what might be in there!

I continue to have great success with the Briminator.

I caught this State Private Water Body Record Longear on the Briminator.

It was 8.25 inches long and weighed 0.56 lbs.

roflmao I never thought about it that way, very astute observation. Made me laugh, I could see what you mean.

I continue to experiment with a lot of subsurface flies but I always come back to the Briminator. It continues to be by far my most productive pattern for Bluegill and Sunfish. I also continue to take a lot of liberties with Tony's design.

I was experimenting with crawfish patterns and colors. I decided to tie up a "Crawfish Briminator". The tail and body are tied with Crawfish orange rabbit hair and a crawfish orange hackle. This has been one of my most productive patterns so far.
