Was thinking about going out to Grapevine tonight to try my luck with some crappie, haven't ever had a serious night trip in the slips before and I was wondering is there anything to it? Anything I need to do different? Jig colors? Depth? Certain structure? Any tips help

the perimeter of the lights is THE nest at night
and yes I said "NEST" ....they love to hang there
just where the shadowy area forms
crappie love to ambush things they can see in the dark
try swimming your jig from the lighted area to the darker area
get ready to be bit when it gits the darker water thumb

Didn't know you fished Grapevine Ketchn.

If you find a slip with the best lighting then that will be your best spot. Like said, the lights draw in the bait fish. You'll be limited on where to drop your line but close to the piers or under them is best. Start at bottom and work your way up a foot at a time until you find them. If still no bites change colors or better yet add a minnow and repeat.

Good Luck!!

haven't sir in 40 years ...but nite time slip ketchn seems to be nite time slip ketchn to me thumb
I always look for well lit areas and fish the perimeter of them for crappie ...
sometimes they will be in the lite , but more often than not they are on that shadowy edge created by the lite

That is so true. I do lots night fishing: barge, piers, bridges. crappies are most likely to stay in the shadow area, ambushing their preys. sandbass are most likely to be in the lighted area.

But don't forget, depending on water depth, there could be an edge under the lights...
