Been catching a few hybrids and sandys at oakmont and Rodgers park on silver slabs. Anybody else want to share what they are catching them on? Where? Depth? Etc.

Launched at rogers park area and I was sitting in 30 FOW close to brush but they were schooling around 10-15. I trolled 2 lipless Crankbaits(one sexy shad, the other black and chrome) and they only hit the sexy shad colored one. I threw sexy shad deep diving crankbaits and shad colored swim baits and they all got hits.

Fished yesterday for about an hour and a half. We caught 36 sandys (about half keepers) and one 3 pound smallmouth in the Morgan's point area. I tell you what, it feels good to finally catch fish after the slow winter on this lake.

Was told by a customer today that the Shad spawn is in full swing and the shallow bite was game on.

Anyone have any new reports on Belton for largemouth or smallmouth? Going there in a couple of weeks and looks like the water has come up several feet in the last week or two.

Well this is more of a stillhouse report but I did get a day in on belton as well.

Stillhouse, well lets just say that the two days I was there I didn't do worth a hoot. I caught some fish but could not put 5 keepers in the boat over the two days. The rain and stain of the water has them acting funky, well funky compared to the last time I was there.

Belton, I went against the grain and traveled up into the heavily stained/semi muddy water up north. I tied on a blk/blu vibra jig and started to work the exposed timber and picked up some quality fish. Seems that they were more towards the back of the creeks, owl paid off good with a couple of 4lb lmb and some smaller keepers. That creek just north of the bridge was good as well and I caught more keepers than shorts. The key was to get that vibra jig into the tree and work it through the limbs...oh and hang on to your rod. Aint that right Eddie...LOL Never seen a grown man cry so hard.

Anyway I have 5 more days of leave before I ship out again and am going this weekend. I will concentrate on belton and forego stillhouse seeing that I did well there this last weekend. If I get a chance I will update.

Hey all,

I got out on Belton over the weekend. This report is quick because I have to catch my plane to report in.

I tried to do the Vibra-jig thing again and that patteren just died. So I knocked around as much as I could trying to locate fish and didn't have much luck. I kept moving south and could pick up a small piglet now and then..(10" fish with a fat belly) but the bite was just off. Normally on tough days I can finesse them but nothing help. I worked myself all the way to the dam on Saturday and didn't catch one keeper.

Sunday seeing that I basically skunked the day before. I decided to start where I left off on Sunday and then work my way north as the weather got worse. I went back home Sat. night and was reading my Dad's Lake Belton fishing journal and saw something that he had written back in 94 and gave that technique a try. For the 2 hours on Sunday we caught 3 solid smallmouth using Dad's trick technique. It wasn't like someone turned on the switch...but we did catch three nice ones on the south end using it that rig. I don't know the name of the rig but you can rig your worm to glide horizontally...Dad's journal didn't have a name just a how to rig and also a hand drawn picture of the bait gliding in a big Z patteren against a bluff wall...does that make sense??

That is what I got for you. I am off now to spend the rest of today with my Mother before I ship off tonight.

Thanks

RP
