I was seeing if anyone has gotten a ticket for not having your red and green lights when fishing at night or low light. What kind of lights do you guys use for low light or night fishing? Post pics of your setups if you dont mind! Thanks

No red or green lights are required, and probably shouldn't be used since that would give the impression you're a powered craft. I use a YakAttack VisiCarbon Pro--a little pricey but well-designed, effective, and collapsible. A lot of people craft a homemade light. A lot of people are putting strips of LEDs on the inside and outside.

Check out Super Nova lights. I and many others believe them to be the best solution for kayak lighting. Owner, Dez is a huge supporter of the Texas kayak fishing scene

http://www.ebay.com/itm/12V-5M-Green-505...=item589dcdf4f0Those will work, but you will need to find some kind of adhesive to get them onto your yak. http://www.ebay.com/itm/5M-300LEDS-5050-...=item20ecf49700Those have a black PCB if you are running a darker colored yak and want it to be more discreet. Keep in mind, both of the products above are 5 METER length coils of lights. You can cut them to the length you desire, you just have to solder your wires onto the contacts, and then seal them with silicone and an end protector. On the strips I have done, I will use a 3/8" polyolefin heat shrink tube with a small squirt of silicone into them to help seal the wires connection to the light strip against water intrusion. Again, you'll need to find some kind of 3M adhesive that will allow you to stick them to ABS.

You can find 5 meter rolls of waterproof LEDs with adhesive backing on Amazon for under $15. If you have a good soldering iron, its a pretty easy DIY job to rig up a system.

D, I have not had very much luck finding 5m rolls of IP68 (ingress protection rating for fully submersible lights) LEDs with a good adhesive for ABS substrates already on them. Would you please link me to some?

Hi Andrew,
I don't see the exact LEDs that I bought from Amazon listed anymore , but there are a lot of similar looking ones from different sellers. The LEDs I bought are labeled "waterproof", without any sort of claim of IPx8 certification. I have no doubt that they will do fine in a marine environment after looking at them closely (I have bought 8 rolls to light up a boat). The LEDs are completely encased in a flexible clear plastic strip, so water intrusion is only going to occur if the strip is physically damaged. The LED strips come with some type of 3M double sided tape which I doubt will last very long but is a big help in positioning the LEDs for mounting. To secure the LEDs in place, I run a bead of Marine Goop along both sides of the strip.

. Made my back light from a clamp on flashlight type stern light. Took off the clamp. Glued on grey pvc coupling and a short 1" dia pvc pipe. Used nylon zip ties to hold in place some foam insulation for a tight fit into one of my angled built in rod holder tubes. The stern light needs to stick up above your head and be seen 360 deg. I use a large (6 volt square battery) type flashlight in the front under my bungee cords as my bow light. No red/green lights. Watched a GW write a ticket to another kayaker coming to the ramp in the dark a few years ago. [/URL]

My dad helped me put lights on my yak. I fish at night during the spring time for crappies. I did some research and really the only thing that is required to be legal is a 360 light. But we decided to go alittle further than that I have internal lights and external lights. They run off of a motorcycle cranking battery. That will last for 3.5 hours with all my lights on. This was right after we finished putting them on, so the tape is still holding the lights on while the liquid nails dry. I've had them on for over a year now and still going strong. These lights will light up the whole cove that your fishing in. They work great!
